Fargo creator developing Legion series with Marvel and FX
ew.com
by Lynette Rice October 14 2015 FX helped to create some of television’s most memorable anti-heroes, but now it’s about to introduce one from comic-book lore. The cable net announced Wednesday that its teaming with Marvel to produce a pilot for Legion, about a character from the X-Men universe who was first introduced in comic books in the ’80s. The pilot will kick off with an introduction of David Haller, a teen who has struggled with mental illness and ultimately diagnosed with schizophrenia. After spending time in and out of psych wards, Haller is confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real. The project is backed by some high-proifle producing talent. Noah Hawley (Fargo) will write the pilot and serve as an executive producer along with Lauren Shuler Donner (X-Men: Days of Future Past), Bryan Singer (X-Men: Days of Future Past), Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past, The Martian), Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Jim Chory (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Marvel’s Daredevil) and John Cameron (Fargo). “Legion is just the sort of ambitious story that Noah excels at,” FX Original Programming President Nick Grad said in a statement. “His adaption of Fargo for television was one of the most acclaimed television events in recent memory. It’s also an honor to partner with Marvel on Legion and to enlist such an accomplished team of Executive Producers to create this pilot.” Haller was first created by writer Chris Claremont and artist Bill Sienkiewicz for Marvel’s New Mutants in 1985. He is the mutant son of X-Men leader Professor Charles Xavier. In addition to Legion, Marvel also announced Wednesday that a series based on The Hellfire Club could wind up on the air at Fox. |
