Tips on how to make a compilation clip please

Hi Guys

I want to make a few cumpilation clips,

I can cut out the parts I want

But what do I need to do to join them up ?

Eg do they all need to be the same size ?

Do they all need to be the same format ?

Any other tips ?

Hi Digmen1,

When you extract the clips, you need to save them so that they are all of the same resolution before joining them together.

I use MPEG Streamclip to extract the clips and at the same time to resize them if needed, and make sure they are all saved as the same file type.

I then re-name each file with a number (1 being the first clip to appear in the compilation, followed by 2, 3 etc.).

I then select all clips together and open them again with MPEG Streamclip and they will display in the sequential order.

Finally, I export this file to a format of my choice (usually AVI) and the comp is ready to post.

+1000 to MPEG StreamClip by far for all video editing operations (join, split, convert, edit, re-encode) (discovered that magic program from alexora also......... 1.5 years back ago easy, lightweight does anything for mac/win)

This free application requires Windows XP or Windows Vista or Windows 7, but may also work in Windows 2000 and in Linux with WINE; it does not work in Windows 95/98/SE/ME. You have to download and install QuickTime, using one of the following two installers (but NOT both!):

First things first....what format are your clips?

Generally, I use Virtual Dub or Movica, depending upon the format. Yes, they should be the same size, frame rate, dimensions, and audio sampling rate. Assuming all clips appear to have the same properties, if I try to join a bunch of clips and get an error message on the audio sampling rate (most common error), I re-encode them with MediaCoder, so all clips have identical properties. Then I can join them...

Sorry if I'm "re-opening" an almost 5 year old thread, but I have some questions, and this thread was the first hit on Google...and I'm lazy.
I know that VirtualDub is #1 for AVI formats etc, but if I want to cut out scenes from let's say a WMV or MP4-file?

And what app would be suitable for converting all "cuts" to the same format?

Boilsoft video splitter does a good job also, it allows you to cut with (selecting output format and quality) and without re-encoding (very fast and with same output format)

Hi, new member here.

I had some general questions about posting and distributing a compilation.

I decided a week ago to try splicing together a bunch of my favorite (mostly rather extreme) porn scenes along with one of my favorite music tracks. Since then, it's become a full-time obsession, keeping me up late for the last week.


I'm not interested in making any money from this, but the video seems much too good not to share it. I'm good at editing in Premiere and After Effects and using various subtle effects to improve the video quality. And I'm really astounded by how well this video has turned out, and it keeps getting more and more polished.

My question is how to distribute this without getting in trouble. I am totally new at this. I don't mind if the video gets posted somewhere and then taken down, but I do worry about what the consequences could be.

I'm being careful to keep the logos visible in the video clips at all times, and removing the metadata in Premiere.

I'm sure if I asked a lawyer about this, they'd say "don't even think about it," but I'm hoping some people here can guide me toward things to do or not to do so I can post this and still sleep soundly at night.

Thanks -- yes, I may do that. I am totally new at this so was not aware of those sites. Mostly just looking for advice for staying out of potential legal trouble ...
