Default Not trying to beat a dead horse...,

But are their ANYWAY at all in windows 10 to either disable or just stop updates?
Windows 10 home, 1909, its not the fact that i dont want them, i totally get 1 time a month i need to restart my computer, its the fact with the b and c updates, being the ' lesser important ones that still make you restart the machine'
Example, last month it was after patch tuesday it was maybe the 2nd to last week of the month and i had to update Microsoft edge and restart my computer, couldnt say 'no' theirs no option so i did it, I DONT EVEN HAVE Microsoft edge, i use Firefox, so now im actually getting updates for programs i dont use.

Again i get it, we can pause them for about a month which in itself only makes the time longer because you know eventually you need to update and when your systems paused you cant update Microsoft defender, so now im starting to actually get the updates right away.. lets say they are released on tuesday my time at 4pm, thats when i get them to just get it over with, untested, potentially dangerous, knock on wood so far they havent crashed my system, i just dont get it,
Windows 7 clearly gave us a 'hide option' to not get an update we didnt want, no questions asked. ............ Why doesnt win 10?

There are several methods, but not all work for Home version:

Code:
http://windowscentral.com/how-stop-updates-installing-automatically-windows-10
Check the option for "Limiting updates" under "How to disable automatic updates using Group Policy".

"How to disable automatic updates using Group Policy". unfortunately isnt for the home version, 1 setting actually says you can disable updates for 365 days, so a year, i was DYING to do that but again, its only for window10 pro, it looks like im stuck with pausing them, its really not that i wanna pause them..
i dont want the updates at all, its the ONLY reason i got windows 10, i mean i shouldnt complain i got windows 10 completely free, just having to restart my computer every 8 or 9 days is time consuming and frustrating, like i said i dont mind the security updates but the others on stuff i dont use, like im getting asked to update Skype( dont have it) Microsoft edge( dont have it) , then if you simply let it update and ignore it, it restarts on its own.. i dont like being forced like that, it should be the consumers choice what updates we want and WHEN to get them.

If you're in a hurry and cannot purchase a Win10 Pro license, you can use these commands and Product Key to update your Windows 10 Home installation to Pro

Search for CMD and open up as Admin then, in order, enter:

1: cscript slmgr.vbs /ipk (or -ipk, in case /ipk no longer works) W269N-WFGWX-YVC9B-4J6C9-T83GX

2: cscript slmgr.vbs /skms kms.lotro.cc

3: cscript slmgr.vbs /ato

After 5 minutes you should have a fully working and activated Win10 Pro installation.

OK!!! I've been on Win 10 for a couple of years now and despite the many complaints about the OS I've been pretty happy with it - until today. I set my machine up to carry out a lengthy task that was going to ten or more hours to complete. Switched off my monitor and went out for a while. Came back six hours later and switched on my monitor - everything chugging along OK. Went to make a cup of tea - came back 20 minutes later and found that Windows Update had rebooted losing the previous six hours of processing time. Fuuhhhuucccckkk THAT!!!

That's the first time Windows has ever rebooted without asking. Normally it just downloads and waits for me to reboot. When I click the Power button I get options Shutdown and update or Restart and update.

So I've done a bit of searching and found the following hack online.

Quote:
1. Press Windows key + R keyboard shortcut to open the Run command.
2. Type the following path and click "OK":
%windir%\System32\Tasks\Microsoft\Windows\UpdateOrchestrator
3. Select the Reboot (it does not have an extension) file, right-click it and select "Rename".
4. Rename the Reboot file to "Reboot.old".
5. Right-click inside the folder, select "New," and click on "Folder".
6. Name the New Folder "Reboot".
7. Now restart your computer.
The process can be reversed by removing the Reboot folder and renaming Reboot.old to it's original Reboot.

I've applied the changes and rebooted. Everything seems to be working fine. Now I just have to wait for another update to see if it actually works.

N.B. If you decide to try the hack just know you're doing it at your own risk.
