I swear if Tampa, Vegas, or Carolina ends up winning the cup I will never tune into another game again. There isn't any of those 3 that I consider to be good for the game.

Unless you practice on that configuration you can't compensate for it in the short timeframe but you can adjust your wingers to protect that outside lane and firce opponents to dump and chase at least. I remember watching tapes of old games where the Canadians and Russians owned that extra 15 feet if lane and they would gather steam in their own zone and fly past defenders like they were standing still lol. That forced opposing defensemen to lay back to avoid breakaways. Then Canadian coaches were recruited to teach the European players to play our game... they did that so well that they caught up to us and even surpassed us certain years. We did the same thing with curling that we used to dominate...

“He’s going to take her head off,” Cam Currie recalls thinking at the minor bantam game two years ago between the rival triple-A teams.

His shot may be fast, but Taya Currie’s glove hand is too.

“There’s been a few moments like that with some boys that have some extreme talent, but she’s hung right in there and done really well,” reflected Cam Currie.

That’s what Taya Currie has done for the past seven years: play with the Chiefs’ triple-A boys team and excel every step of the way. Now, the 16-year-old from Parkhill, Ont., will get a chance to continue to do that at the next level after getting selected in the 14th round by the Sarnia Sting on Saturday and making history by becoming the first female taken in the OHL draft.
