20 years ago I watched La Law in reruns and I couldn't stand her on that show either so when her character fell down an elevator shaft and died I was quite happy. (But at least she fit in that show, didn't like her character but she looked like she belonged) I really look forward to Mcfadden's return. |

Yeah but she was hot back then. I mean I knew she was on TOS but that really can't be a reason to have hired her? She just looks so completely out of place. I mean really really out of place...
Ok so in the midst of writing this I did a little search and here is what I came up with: Roddenberry described Muldaur as "a most talented actress", and said that the decision "to let her go was made solely because the hoped-for chemistry between her and the rest of the starship cast did not develop." |

The character of Dr Pulaski was MEANT to clash with the rest of the cast. Aside from Maurice Hurley's personal beef with Gates McFadden, his claim was that the cast seemed too cozy.
Diana Muldaur wasn't a bad choice to portray a more gritty doctor character. It would have been much worse to have just brought another actress in to play a Dr Crusher clone. A middle aged woman doctor fit in well with that idea; McFadden was in her late 30s and a bit young to be the CMO of Starfleet's flagship (Crusher was meant to be a love interest for Picard) and Muldaur was in her 50s which made more sense. Gene Roddenberry just made the character too unlikable because he just tried to create a female McCoy without the character camaraderie of the original. In the end the fans didn't liker her, Maurice Hurley was gone, Muldaur didn't want to play that character anymore so McFadden was brought back. |

I'm sorry I just forgot how much I think she was a terrible choice, one of the worst characters ever on Star Trek! And I'm no Gates Mcfadden fan but she is light years better than Maldaur's Dr. Pulaski! |

I think after Crusher was let go and they needed someone to fill in as ship doctor for the 2nd season, they hired in a hurry.

The series doesn't really get going until the 3rd season anyway. I only have 5 more episodes of her to go and she plays a small part in those episodes....then I will be into season 3. I really look forward to season 3 and beyond when the show really gets going and I will watch more episodes than just the essentials. |

They had to work hard to get Crusher to return. I read somewhere it took a call from the actor who plays Riker to convince her. She didn't want to return. Good thing she did. It would not be TNG without her. My brothers had crushes on her. Something about her red hair. Only thing I find strange about her is her first name. Gates for a woman?

I look forward to seeing how they explain/justify her return in her first episode.
From the season 3 synopsis: Meanwhile, Dr. Beverly Crusher, returned to the Enterprise after a year at Starfleet Medical, is concerned over her presence limiting son Wesley's development. Can a 17-year-old boy develop normally if his mother is always around him? I am sure I will remember the episode when I watch the promo. I look forward to her return. Watching Q Who? episode: I really never paid attention to Q's calling Guinan a "creature": "This creature is not what she appears to be." Didn't really remember that. |
