Cant skip forward/backward in certain videos.
Im using WMP(this same things happens in VLC,so don ask me to switch)with the complete/full codec package that allows me to play MP4/FLV files and whoat not,but disregard that since i had this problem before i installed that package.Thing is that i cannot skip forward/backward(using the videobar) or fastforwarding, because one i do hat the video freezes and wont start playing.Ive tried to start the vide and let i buffer for several minutes, but that wont help, ive also tried to redownalod it to make sure that the file isnt corrupt, but the same thing happens. The video plays flawlessly if i dont fast/skip forward, and a video very similar to it also works and i can skip/fast forward it.

WMP is a pile of pants basically, if you wont download anything to install then its not much use mentioning K-Lite full codec pack with MPC bundled, I used to have issues with VLC, it also depends if a video has skip markers, but you should be able to skip or FF, but not all formats support this so it could be the video.

Your file IS damaged, and likely was damaged in the upload. Download ASF AVI RM WMV Repair
http://download.cnet.com/windows/rep...4-6196663.html This should fix your file.

I agree with Phoenix. I think you have a damaged video. I've run into the same problem. When I find a vid like that I also find I can't open it in Roxio MyDvd. I have two possible fixes.
1. Open the file in VirtualDub. If the file is a .avi, set both video and audio to Direct Stream Copy. Save the video with another name and see if that fixes it. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. 2. If the tip above does not work, or if you have a .wmv file, try a full re-encode with VirtualDub. If you want to open a .wmv file in VirtualDub you will either need the .wmv plugin or DirectShowSource and AviSynth installed first. DirectShowSource is my preference as it seems to be able to open just about anything in VirtualDub. When the file is open chose Full Processing Mode for both video and audio. Set your video compression to Xvid an adjust encode settings. Set audio compression to LAME MP3. Re-encode the vid to .avi, and you will probably find that it works. |

You can find it here : load your file and try on the advanced settings : Advanced Settings --> "Write Simple Index" Or Advanced Settings --> "Force Index" You can also try to remux it on an AVI container with VirtualDubMPEG2 or with some input plugins that you add to your standard Virtualdub (WMV, FLV, mpeg2, Matroska and Quicktime plugins available) You can find all necessary tools here : Just open your movie and set the video to "direct stream copy" and save as an avi, no-recompression needed. I have used this last trick very often myself and it has often saved me hours of re-encoding. |
