Love him or hate him Lee Iacocca died at age 94 last Tuesday after a long life in the auto industry that saw him pioneer such cars as the Mustang and Pinto before being fired by Henry Ford's grandson which saw him go to Chrysler and pull it out of the trash heap with the help of some serious taxpayer dollars to turn a profit on his first couple years there when he launched the K car and minivan. Rest in peace

I had a K-Car: the 1983 Plymouth Reliant.

It was in a beige color. $9,200. About $24,000 by today's money. The first car I bought that was brand new. I had all the options installed: A/C, FM radio and cassette stereo system (standard was just an AM radio), power windows, power door locks, power steering with tilt, automatic transmission, leather trim package, front bench seat instead of bucket seats, heavy duty suspension, the bigger 2.5L 4 cylinder engine instead of the 2.2L standard 4 cylinder engine. Believe it or not all those were extras back then. Don't knock it: the K-Car not only saved Chrysler, it was Motor Trend magazine 1981 car of the year. It was a good car. I had it until 1985 when I traded in for a Chevrolet Celebrity 2.8L V6 Fuel Injected Eurosport with 15 in Goodyear Eagle GT tires and aluminum rims. $14,000 brand new, fully loaded including a built in car phone. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Celebrity |

Not knocking anything, the K car was an affordable reliable car if maintained regularly but was a throwaway for all intents and purposes, the real money came from residual income as people had to buy replacement parts often just to keep them going. It is a long known strategy in the retail industry and practiced widely across the board.

The minivan was a soccer mom's wet dream lol. Back to the "turned it around" part, all true but at what cost, the loan was never paid back to the taxpayers and these cheap cars got the ball rolling on jobs moving to Mexico ... not to mention Detroit becoming a wasteland I support buy north American though and just bought a shiny new Lincoln Navigator and used a fully loaded dodge and my Escalade as trades. The Nav is taking business from GM and I'm glad to help that lol. GM sucks ... |

Jeffrey Epstein: Financier charged with sex trafficking minors
Wealthy US financier and friend of the powerful, Jeffrey Epstein, has appeared in a New York court charged with running "a vast network" of underage girls for sex. Appearing in dark blue jail clothing on Monday, Epstein pleaded not guilty. The indictment alleges he enticed minors to visit his Manhattan and Florida mansions between 2002 and 2005. According to the charges, the girls, some as young as 14, were given hundreds of dollars for sex acts. He faces one count of sex trafficking and one of sex trafficking conspiracy. Who is Jeffrey Epstein? The 66-year-old hedge fund manager was arrested on Saturday at Teterboro Airport after arriving from France on his private jet. Epstein will remain in jail until his bail hearing on 11 July. What does the charge sheet say? The indictment alleges Epstein knew his victims were under 18. Often they would be invited to carry out a massage nude before being subjected to sexual abuse, it says. The accused "also paid certain of his victims to recruit additional girls to be similarly abused", the document alleges. He conspired with others "including employees and associates" who helped schedule encounters at his Manhattan mansion and Palm Beach residence, it is alleged. Epstein has maintained that he believed the girls were at least 18 and that the encounters were consensual. At a news conference, US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Geoffrey Berman, said a police raid on Epstein's Manhattan property resulted in the seizure of what appeared to be photos of naked girls. He said that Epstein presented a flight risk and he would recommend the defendant remain in custody pending trial. Mr Berman appealed to anyone who may have been a victim or have information to come forward. "The alleged behaviour shocks the conscience," he said. "And while the alleged conduct is from a number of years ago it is still profoundly important to the many alleged victims. They deserve their day in court." Media captionGeoffrey Berman: "If you believe you are a victim of this man... we want to hear from you."What about previous allegations? Epstein, once a friend of Prince Andrew, former US President Bill Clinton and President Donald Trump, was previously accused of abusing dozens of teenage girls between 1999 and 2007. But he reached a plea deal to avoid federal sex trafficking charges in the case. He instead pleaded guilty in 2008 to lesser Florida state charges of soliciting and procuring a person under the age of 18 for prostitution. He spent 13 months in jail and registered as a sex offender, avoiding a possible life sentence. Earlier this year, a Florida judge ruled that federal prosecutors broke the law by not informing Epstein's victims of the plea deal at the time. Judge Kenneth Marra is currently deciding whether the non-prosecution agreement that protected Epstein from the more serious charges should still stand. Following the ruling, the White House said it was also "looking into" Labour Secretary Alexander Acosta's role in the plea deal, which he approved in his previous role as a US attorney. Epstein in December deprived his alleged victims of the chance to testify against him for the first time*by reaching a last-minute agreement to settle a civil lawsuit. What is Epstein's background? As a young man, New York-born Epstein taught mathematics and physics at Manhattan's private Dalton School. He moved into finance in 1976, working as an options trader for investment banking company Bear Stearns. Within four years, he was made a limited partner. He then went on to found his own financial management firm J Epstein & Co, reportedly managing the assets of clients with more than $1bn (£798m) in net worth. In 1996, he changed his company's name to The Financial Trust Co and based it in the US Virgin Islands for tax purposes. His lavish lifestyle, along with the secrecy surrounding his client list and other details of his business, earned Epstein a reputation as a mysterious moneyman. One Wall Street insider described him to New York Magazine in 2002 as a "Gatsbyesque figure". "I've known Jeff for 15 years. Terrific guy," Mr Trump was quoted as saying in the New York Magazine profile. "He's a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side." Along with his wealth and high-profile friends, Epstein built a reputation as a philanthropist. In 2003, he hit headlines for making a $30m donation to Harvard University for the founding of a mathematical biology and evolutionary dynamics programme. Reports of his current wealth vary, with his Virgin Islands-based firm generating no public records. According to Florida court records, cited by NBC News,*Epstein also maintains properties in the US Virgin Islands, Paris and Mexico. |

You may have read in the tabloids lately about Justin Bieber challenging Tom Cruise to a fight ... and then yesterday to the bottle cap challenge whatever the fuck that is lol. Anyway back to Cruise for a minute ...
Daughter-in-law of opera singer Plácido Domingo reveals Scientology celeb secrets, claiming Tom Cruise's kids were 'indoctrinated to hate Nicole Kidman, John Travolta tried to raise his son from the dead and Jada Pinkett Smith WAS a member' Sam Domingo, 51, (left and inset) is the daughter-in-law of the world's most famous opera singer, Placido Domingo, and spent 22 years with the Church of Scientology. Domingo socialized and studied with Tom Cruise's family in Clearwater, Florida, as her children would play with his kids and she was close to his three sisters. Now, for the first time, she reveals what life inside the Church was for the stars and their 'indoctrinated' children in a bombshell interview with DailyMail.com. Domingo claims Cruise's children Connor and Isabella were 'indoctrinated to hate' Nicole Kidman (together top right) after she split from Cruise. She says John Travolta tried to command his 16-year-old son Jett's (bottom left) Scientology spirit back into his body after a seizure, which was meant to raise him back to life. Jada Pinkett Smith (bottom right), 47, is 'lying' when she says she was only dabbling in Scientology courses, as Domingo said she witnessed her recruiting other celebrities |
