I myself am real skeptical of the idea of aliens actually being around this planet....but if they were, they'd either be observing us in non-threatening way, or they'd be scoping out the planet to later harvest resources from it for energy.

I remember National Geographic having a program in the past about fictional aliens invading Earth to harvest it for energy...but the actual aliens weren't there or physically couldn't come, and instead the invaders were machines sent by the aliens to wipe out resistance and harvest resources.

I would also figure aliens would be more alien like rather than the humanioid ones people are used to.

In regards to UFO phenomenon I've tended to be interested in Jacque Vallee's stuff on it.

Very true. We are the dominant species on this planet and quite a bit of ego comes with that, but you know what? We won't be nearly as important to another intelligent species as we are to ourselves. Either they see something here that they want and just take it, or they move on to another system and take it there. Nothing matters but them-- such is the way of all intelligent life. I highly doubt they would ever help us, nor do I believe that they would harm us. I don't see the "War of the Worlds" plot ever unfolding because, lets face it, our weapons our inferior. Our minds are inferior. They may not be millions of years ahead of us, but they're definitely advanced enough to build a starship to travel here, which means that they're better than us.

That being said, I do believe that they have been here. Do they stay here? I doubt it. They probably just wanted to check out our civilizations, just as we would be doing if we had the ability to travel through space that quickly.
