Yes the Lightning's elimination is indeed shocking. But this is the beauty of the NHL playoffs, anything can happen. In the NBA there are very few surprises, there it's almost always the higher ranking team advances to the next round. Calgary's situation isn't too good right now, their offense seriously disappeared. Although the last three games were all tight, the Flames' big guns are not producing enough goals and points. But the next game will be in the Saddledome, so hopefully they can pull out a win and extend the series. Like the Sharks did today. Which was a big surprise for me. Martin Jones is a disaster so far and Vegas' top line looks unstoppable.

I have followed the NHL since the Islanders reign in the '80s. Now I hope
for Nashville but that will not happen this year. Hope I'm wrong.

Well Calgary's season is quickly over. I think scoring goals was their biggest problem and maybe Colorado was the hungrier team. This is the first time in NHL history that the two conference champions lost in the first round.

Nashville is in a tough spot, Game 6 is in Dallas and Pekka wasn't too good in the last two games. If he can't play almost perfectly and his teammates can't score goals, their season is over too.

After the first round two things are certain. There will be no Canadian Stanley Cup winner again

and the Capitals won't defend their title. The Hurricanes' victory today is just as shocking as the Blue Jackets' sweep. From now on I will root for the so called underdogs, like CBJ and Carolina. It would be cool to see a brand new champion. From the remaining eight teams, three (CBJ, SJ and STL) have never won the Cup so far.

Dang, 4 of the top teams were elimited right away. Bolts, Flames, Preds, and Caps. It's anyones game now like it hasn't been for as long I can remember.

At this point my hockey heart is with the Bruins an the Sharks. I'm a long time fan of Bergeron, and my fellow Swede Marcus Johansson deserves glory too for his hard work in the shadow of bigger stars.

Sharks... few deserves a Cup more than Jumbo Joe. I would hate to see him end up like Marcel Dionne - great players without titles. And Erik Karlsson is my fav guy in the whole league, so what's there not to like?

Sunny side up, we will have a very good team at the World Champs again, in May. We won the last 2 tournaments and should be in contention for a third title in a row. Elias Pettersson, Elias Lindholm, OEL, Erik Gustavsson, Hank Lundqvist, Zibby + about 15 more nhl players will be there. Don't know about the Caps and Preds players right now, except that Filip Forsberg won't join due to an injury ridden season. Just give me Arvidsson and Ekholm from the Preds and I'll be happy. Hornqvist of the Penguins will also be there, the closest we ever got to a new Thomas "Homer" Holmstrom. It will be fun.

This year's playoff is indeed one of the craziest ever. Anything can happen in the remaining three rounds. I agree with you when you say Jumbo Joe deserves the Cup the most. The guy is a true warrior and even though he's 40 years old, yet he still enjoys and loves the game as an 18 years old. And your favourite guy Erik Karlsson also deserves a bit of success after all those years in Ottawa. They are up 1-0 at the moment, but we know what happened in the first round against Calgary.

"My" Carolina is off to a great start, I'm sure the whole series will be tight checking and low scoring games.

Your national team will be very strong on paper, hopefully they can bring home the gold medal.

Hurricanes and Islanders were not expected by many to reach round two in the playoffs. Can't even guess the outcome. Lehner is in the flow of his life, but Carolina has their best offense since they won the Cup. Best of luck!

Yes you're right, there are numerous surprise teams in the playoffs in general and in the second round too. The Islanders are the best example. Last year they have allowed the most goals in the league. This year they have allowed the least, thanks to Barry Trotz's new system. Carolina is similar too, their goaltenders are much better now, than in the previous years. And the results are immediately there. They are up 2-0 and now they can go home, where they are undefeated so far in the playoffs. The series will be pretty tight and long in both conferences in the second round, that's for sure.

Earlier tonight I watched Sweden beat Russia 6-4 in the last warmup tournament before the World Champs. Russia had Malkin, Kutcherov, Kovaltchuk, the Tampa goalie, Anisimov, that 1st liner from Florida, the biggest star from KHL, Gusev, etc. But our line with Elias Pettersson (2 assists), Loui Eriksson (2 goals), and Anton Lander (formerly of the Oilers, 2 assists) ruled the ice. And our first pairing at defense, Oliver Ekman Larsson and Adam Larsson, where almost flawless. Looks good, but we will not be favorites due to too many injuries on key players.

Canes will be on tonight. Right now I hope for any outsider to win the Cup.

Wow Carolina is simply unbelievable, they are one step away from sweeping the Islanders out of the playoffs. And they won again at home with their backup goaltender. The Islanders' biggest problem is goal scoring, just like it was in the regular season.

The Blues / Stars series will be a long one, they are two very similar teams and there's not much difference between them.

Your team's lineup will be pretty strong in the World Championship, I think the Swedes will be serious contenders for gold.
