Good quality final. Neither player seemed to be overawed with the occasion, which was really nice to see. Quite often we see at least one finalist who is new to that situation, fail to do themselves justice and we end up with a somewhat one-sided final. Huge credit to both players.

The injury to Raducanu was a sticky wicket, as we say here in the UK. Tide seemed to have been turning. It was both fortunate and unfortunate, depending on the point of view. Rules are rules, and injuries where blood is drawn need to be treated.

A line of Rudyard Kipling's poem came to mind, 'if you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs..'. All you can do in moments like that is to focus on yourself and what you can control. I do not wish to be critical of Fernandez, but she did let that incident affect her. It was a shame the match came to a conclusion in such a way, rather than two players going full at it.

Canada deserves a lot of praise for the many good players it is producing. Here in the UK, I feel like we sit around and hope for the next Andy Murray to magically appear.

Most people here have embraced her (Raducanu), but there are a few trolls here in the UK who like say that she isn't British, because she wasn't born here. There's no point getting into that. On Raducanu's twitter page, it says, London/Toronto/Shenyang/Bucharest. That's good enough for me.

Novak Djokovic didn't win the US Open?

I would have said he was nailed on to win even before it started. I thought, any injury problems aside, he was pretty much invincible when it comes to the four grand slam tournaments. That was just an impression I get though, even though Novak has lot a few to Murray and Wawrinka.

Nonetheless, nice to see one of the younger pretenders step up and beat one of the current GOAT players. Tsitsipas couldn't do it in Paris and I didn't think Medvedev could in the US, so it is nice to be wrong.

Needs to happen more often, which I suppose it will now, given the ages of Roger, Rafa and to a lesser degree, Novak.

Serena Williams has fallen off her perch in the women's game. Sorry Serena fans, but yay! Nice to see others players winning.

I am probably one of the few who will welcome the retirement of these current great players. I get fed up of seeing the same guy/woman win constantly.

Anybody else following that story of tennis star Peng Shuai from China who has mysteriously gone missing after making sexual assault allegations...

What makes the story even more scary than the fact that it's in China is that out of nowhere and email on her account shows up, the email was written in her voice and claims she is not missing or in harm’s way: “I’ve just been resting at home and everything is fine.”

Why on Earth would she have to add the in harm's way portion... probably because she didn't write this thing at all

Then a statement was issued to Women’s Tennis Association Chairman Steve Simon that made things worse because it was lie after lie after lie.

I'm sure by now she has been "Khashoggi'd"

Congratulations to Emma and to Leylah as well for their brilliant performances and show of sportsmanship. Two great new ambassadors for the sport of tennis.

That was certainly an exciting match to watch! I hope both these young players have good careers.
