You could try using the original Windows Photo Viewer that was part of Win 7. Although you're probably not aware of it, it is still on your system but hidden. I've always hated the Win 10 Photos app and went back to the original Window Photo Viewer almost from the day I started using Win 10. I've never had any problems with. If you want to give it a try you can do the following to reveal and open pics with it.

IF YOU UPGRADED TO WINDOWS 10 1. Open up Settings and go to System > Default apps 2. Under "Photo viewer," you should see your current default photo viewer (probably the new Photos app). Click this to see a list of options for a new default photo viewer. Assuming you upgraded to Windows 10 from a previous version of Windows, you should see Windows Photo Viewer as an option. 3. Choose Windows Photo Viewer and exit the Settings menu, and you're done -- photos will now open up in Windows Photo Viewer. IF YOU HAVE A NEW (non upgraded ) INSTALL OF WINDOWS 10 1. Copy the text from the quote box below into Notepad and save on your desktop making sure it has a .reg file extension. (e.g. photoviewer.reg). 2. Double click on the icon. This will run the file and restore Windows Photo Viewer as an available app. 3. Go to any folder with a .jpg picture file. 4. Right click any picture and select Open With>Choose another app 5. Scroll to the bottom of the app list and select More apps 6. Scroll down again until you find the Windows Photo Viewer icon 7. Select it and make sure you tick the Always use this app to open .... files 8. Click OK and all files of that type will open in the old Windows Photo Viewer. 9. You will need to repeat steps 3 to 8 for other picture file types like .bmp, .png etc. WARNING Running the .reg file will edit your Windows registry. Before running it make sure you backup the registry and know how to recover it in case things go wrong. Quote:
