So the update for Videolan VLC is out and it now plays ATMOS audio. Yay! But now older videos don't play the audio. It seems that certain formats don't play well.

So far, I've encountered this problem with mp4's and dts formats. Anyone else?

Anyone been able to fix it?

Oh I've had a VLC problem for months now.

I play a file from my computer or a DVD or anything and it plays just fine with no problems but then I record a clip from said DVD or file and ( if I play it with the VLC player sound on ) it'll play the recorded clip with the audio on a black screen and then give me the video with no audio. I eventually started just turned off the audio which lets me record with no trouble and started watching my stuff on another program.

I had vlc for awhile, if thats the program that looks like an orange cone you see in the street) , anyways, it was ok for awhile, then i noticed at times my videos would show me a gray outlined scene, it was really bad, never had much audio problems. About a year ago i would say or longer i uninstalled it and downloaded potplayer, its free and in my view 1000000000 times better, no audio issues/picture etc. Take a look at it, its called potplayer.

A lot of times, when installing Open Source programs, such as VLC Player,, you may be asked to overwrite files. In this case, if it's a plugin, it should ask, before it overwrites a file.

I would suggest that you reinstall your VLC version overtop your upgraded version.
Are you currently running VLC 2.2.4?

Do not uninstall first

If it asks you to remove any old files first, before installation continues, choose No.

If there are any "overwrite" warnings during the reInstall, choose Yes, to overwrite.

Then try and run

These steps should preserve any new file added to your library as well as overwrite the old files that were overwritten by your new plugin.
Let me know how it works out

Worst comes to worst, you may try doing complete un/reInstall with Upgrade Plugin.
