Baby Face (1933)
Version watched: the 76 minutes uncut restored version that wasn't approved for theatrical release by the New York State of Censors. http://imdb.com/title/tt0023775/ A barely 26 years old Barbara Stanwyck plays Lily, a young woman who was sexually abused all her life starting at the age of 14 by her father's friends, who finds out that the way to move up in life so she could afford all the nice materialistic things is to sleep her way through men starting with the personnel department manager of a bank, then the filing department manager, and on and on until she reaches the President of the bank. This is one of the last Hollywood Pre-Code http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pre-Code_Hollywood films and also one of the movies that were instrumental in bringing the Pre-Code era to a close because of its open and at the time graphic discussion of sex. Nothing is ever shown on screen of Lily sleeping with different men but it's implied and spoken about: This movie caused scandals, many theaters in many cities refused to show it, the New York State of Censors (where the movie was scheduled to premiere at during its initial release) demanded several scenes to be cut out and several dialogues to be redubbed before it would pass it for release. For example a dialogue scene between a man giving Lily advice was originally filmed: Quote:

The movie also shows Lily having a very "comradely" friendship with a black woman who is also her servant. That didn't go well with the New York State of Censors at the time becuase Lily is a white woman. An uncut pre-censored version in a dupe negative was discovered in 2004 and was later restored and released on DVD. 4.5/5 |

Currently watching:
Léon aka Léon: The Professional aka The Professional Remastered Extended 1080p This is the full French version that was not released theatrically or on VHS in the USA until it was released on DVD in the USA in 2000. I have only seen the US Theatrical Version in the theaters and then the same version on VHS (titled The Professional). I knew there was some hints of impropriety between Leon and Mathilda in the US Theatrical version. This version is 25 minutes longer and adds previously deleted extra scenes showing interactions (many of the awkward) between Mathilda and Leon which includes her wanting to sleep with Leon and asking him to. If this movie was made today, people will be boycotting it and calling it something not so nice. |

Journey's End (2017)
http://imdb.com/title/tt3780500/ A harrowing realistic portrayal of a British infantry company in the trenches on the front line in Northern France during 1918: the final year of World War 1. Each infantry company is required to spend 6 days each month on the front line before being rotated out. This is the story of one British infantry company during those 6 days. This film is also the 4th film adaptation of a 1928 play: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Journey%27s_End The tension and suspense was so thick, I could feel butterflies in my stomach as if I myself was really in the trenches with those poor men, most of them just boys, waiting to go over the top to run across the 60 yards or so of open space between the British and German trenches, with most of it completely zeroed in by dozens of German machine guns. Not only there aren't enough movies about World War 1, there are even less good movies about World War 1. This is one of the few good ones I've seen. 5/5 |

Just watched:
Identity (2003 http://imdb.com/title/tt0309698/ I won't give the movie's twist away just in case some folks here hadn't seen it. But to those who have seen this movie and and still remember what it was, I think they probably feel the same way I do when I say: there is no way!! 1/5 The only good thing about this film was Amanda Peet. |

I was trying to watch this:
http://imdb.com/title/tt6513656/ 1. it's a piece of shit movie. 2. It's only getting direct to DVD or streaming release in the USA. 3. It's being released in China theatrically first because it's one of the many recent so called Hollywood made in China movies including The Mummy, the last Mission Impossible movie, the last Pacific Rim movie, the last Transformer movie, The Wall, Furious 7, Kong Skull Island and many others where you will see a handful of Chinese actors and actresses in it. I think it's a standing rule now. You, Hollywood, want us Chinese companies to help you produce a movie, you will have to put X number of Chinese Actors and Actresses in it even if they don't get much of a speaking role in it. Like the Chinese actress in Kong Skull Island. She didn't do anything. 4. Why Stallone would agree to be in this other for a quick paycheck and not even care that it doesn't get a US theatrical release, it's beyond me. |
