Default You "Fight Like A Girl"

This thread is NOT a WWE thread and is more a thread about women empowerment in sport.

I am excited about a new unscripted program called Fight Like A Girl and below is an overview but I will give regular updates on its progression. We will also look at boxing, mma, hockey and anything that shows just how tough we girls are ... if given a little latitude here!

WWE Creating New Quibi Unscripted Series Headlined By Female Superstars

By Raj Giri, July 10, 2019

WWE Studios and independent studio Critical Content are producing a new series, Fight Like A Girl, which will air on mobile-first media technology platform Quibi.

According to a press release sent to Wrestling Inc., each episode will feature WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon pairing a WWE female Superstar with a young woman struggling with a personal issue that has been holding her back. The WWE stars will draw from their own life experiences to help their trainees overcome obstacles and become tougher, stronger and healthier versions of their former selves inside and out.

Each episode will be shot at the WWE Performance Center and will feature a stunning transformation and heart-pounding reveal as the women change their lives forever.

Fight Like A Girl is produced by WWE Studios and Critical Content. Executive Producers are Stephanie McMahon, Susan Levison, Ben Zierten and Richard Lowell for WWE Studios, and Tom Forman, Jenny Daly and Jon Beyer for Critical Content.

Isn't fight like a girl supposed to be derogatory remark for a weakling. Why not fight like a woman?

Also it reeks of 'look how great we are' even though the premise is supposed to be 'life changing' so should be free from any and all corporate smugness. Female wrestlers aren't psychiatrists or therapists. As far as I can tell they're hardly gonna do much other than become a personal trainer and all hope to be a bit more famous as a result.

You may well be correct but I will reserve judgement until I have viewed an episode or 2. That fact remains that these strong women wield a massive amount of influence on young girls and have the power to perhaps steer some into the right direction in life regardless of what they pursue. If they can stop one girl from giving up and instead achieving her goals they will have done a service to society ... the future is female.

As for the derogatory comment I choose to wear it as a badge of honor. I train in an mma gym which includes 2 male champions and one female up and comer that will be a champion soon. I got my black belt last year and will attempt my 2nd Dan in a couple months at the request of my trainers who jokingly tell new members as they point to me "go tell her she fights like a girl and see how that works out for you" lol.

Heavy is the head that wears the crown and power is to be respected not abused and there are more women in power every day whether in wrestling, soccer, hockey, teachers, counselors or anything else. It is our duty to pass our knowledge on to do good ...

There are many examples of a group taking a phrase usually used towards them in a derogatory manner and making it their own. It empowers the group as it deflates the ability of those words to cause negative feelings.

As far as the "life changing" aspects of the premise, it will certainly be glossed up a bit for television. However, considering the amount knee-jerk chauvinism and insidious sexism women face, especially in male dominated areas, even a small bit of empowerment could make a vast amount of difference. For a good example, see the previous comments in this thread.

All the "historic" things the WWE has done concerning women wrestlers lately... it's a crock of shit. Talking about the WWE specifically. Because there have been women wrestlers for a long time, since back in the 70's and 80's for sure. And back then, they didn't have to dress like fucking strippers with their tits hanging out, they wore plain old wrestling costumes, and they were mean, dirty, and scary looking, and they whooped ass just as hard as the men.

And when big TV deals started getting involved in the 80's, things started to change. They cut many of the womens matches, or eliminated womens wrestling altogether.

And the shit the WWE does with the women now, it's a fucking joke. Like I said, they all look like strippers, their walkouts involve stripper moves (nikki bellas little "look at my ass" twirl, etc). And they put nothing but women on one PPV, and they pat themselves on the back like "FINALLY! THE WOMEN HAVE BROKEN THE GLASS CEILING IN WRESTLING!", when it was the WWE who put it there to begin with, who took it away as a marketing move due to the whole PC/social justice movement thing,... and then one month later, they haul their shit over to Saudi Arabia to do a show for the Saudi's... one where WOMEN AIN'T ALLOWED. And from some of the promo videos during the event, clearly the event was designed to make the Saudi's look more progressive and accepting of western culture... even though the actual "progress" is pretty negligible.

As for the REAL fighting sports, I think women still have some catching up to do as far as skill. I've watched UFC religiously for the past probably 12 years. When the women first came into it, people like Rhonda Rousey looked amazing and unbeatable. Obviously... she was far from "unbeatable". Two people with "good" boxing skills ran through her like it was easy. When the women first came to the UFC, they were honestly pretty bad. Eh, say this or that about it, but yeah, they were still not very good. Even now, many of the women they have just look rigid and stiff and robotic as they move around. When you compare the way most of the women move and interact in the cage to how the men move around, the men move smoother, they have better form, they know how to generate more power in their strikes by using that proper form.

But as you see, with people like Amanda Nunez, Valentina Chevchenko, and Jessica Andrade improving that aspect of their game and finally throwing some POWER behind their punches, it's gonna force everyone else to do the same, just as it's already done to some degree... which is why women like Joanna Jędrzejczyk (clearly I copied and pasted that, I could sooner turn shit to gold than spell her name right) are gonna have a hard time getting back to the title.

All true but sex sells ... if you don't want to be taken seriously other than by horny guys waiting for a boob to pop out lol.

I will be watching this weekend ... in the main event of UFC Sacramento, former UFC women’s featherweight champion Germaine de Randamie will take on Aspen Ladd in a pivotal women’s bantamweight contender bout. If she’s victorious in this outing, she’ll be looking for a shot at redemption opposite reigning champ Amanda Nunes, who she lost to in 2013. A lot can happen in 6 years though ...

It doesn't help when countries like the US throw crumbs at women empowerment with a lousy 27 million in the women's economic empowerment initiative but I can't expand on that here.

Strong women such as myself are a threat to some men and that is even evident on this site in other sections. Snide digs meant to deflate and incite only strengthen our resolve ...

But hey we live in a world where you can throw lipstick on a pig and call a thread about women getting spanked a sports thread lmfao.

I love seeing that prick Dana White eat crow ... he and my man had to be physically pulled apart in Alaska some years ago.

Dana White: ‘It’s absolutely an even playing field in the UFC’ for male and female athletes

UFC president Dana White talks about equality in sports and how the company treats its female athletes.

UFC president Dana White was once opposed to the idea of female fighters competing in the Octagon. All of that changed, he said, when he came across Ronda Rousey in the early 2010’s.

Women’s MMA has since exploded, and many cards are now headlined by female fighters. In a recent Hashtag Sports session, White was proud of how the UFC became a platform of equality for male and female athletes.

“If you think about in all other sports what they talk about is ‘if women play golf, they hit from shorter tees’, there’s always some excuse about women playing a sport,” White said (via*MMA Fighting). “It’s absolutely an even playing field in the UFC. They fight the same style, they fight everything and even the pay. At the time Ronda Rousey was here, she was the highest paid fighter in the UFC.

“These women are incredible. What’s crazy too, when you think about the empowerment of women right now — for most men this is hard to wrap their head around — a woman will kick your ass these days. It’s not like it was 30 years ago. When I grew up, they played with dolls and we played sports. Not anymore.”

White recognizes how women’s MMA took off to become the grand spectacle that it is now.

“One of the things you have to remember—I completely own up to saying women would never fight in the octagon—but like I told you guys earlier, you’ve got to remember at this time, I was trying to get people to accept the men fighting in the Octagon,” White explained. “It wasn’t allowed on pay-per-view. It wasn’t allowed on TV.

“There’s always going to be this, it’s changing rapidly, but there’s always going to be this chauvinist side to men that men don’t want to see women getting pinned up against the cage and hit with elbows and getting cut, things like that,” he continued.

“So I thought, it’s very popular now. The difference is, the reason that the women’s MMA has taken off and it’s so big is because these women are legit. Really good, very technical, and it’s amazing and I never saw it coming.”

UFC 239 will, in fact, be co-headlined by a women’s title fight between bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes and Holly Holm. It takes place this Saturday, July 6th*in Las Vegas to cap off International Fight Week.

There is a channel on YouTube called Fatherly for proud dads and check out this bundle of dynamite and she isn't even a teenager yet, wow! It's only 39 seconds, what do you have to lose.

It's interesting that the idea that women can't fight or be powerful only came in during the Victorian era, especially in sports.

Before the Queensberry rules of boxing came in to regulate fighting, women also used to fight. But when the new rules came in it said they could no longer fight, and so over the years the image that women can't fight and need to be protected grew in to a mind set.

I'm all for women in sport and holding powerful positions. I think women give a different view point to men and come up with different ideas. I'd much prefer women fight like women, rather than follow the 'ladette' culture were they act like men.

Anyone ever seen a real woman vs woman fight? They can be more vicious than men! If a woman takes off her heels, start running
