Were they still alive when they served them to you?

If not, that might be the problem as oyster should be served alive on the day they have been caught, with no dressing except lemon juice or maybe vinegar.

I never trust cooked oysters, or oysters served far inland.

They were supposed to be fresh, and usually were in the past. The south coast is a bit under two hours away, so gulf coast oysters are not hard for restaurants in my area to get on the same day. How long they get kept once brought in is another question. On that day, too long.

At university I roomed with a friend, and went home one weekend. When I got back my bud told me he ate some old hot dogs and got "sick as a dog." So I said, "When in doubt, throw it out."
