It's as if without fan attendance they didn't know what to do with him and that's a problem because I don't see this being over with this year with variants out the ass and some care free states.

Another NXT release today... this makes nine in two days:
Velveteen Dream ... surprised, as he got quite the push a while back, but not surprised, as he was caught up in being charged with inappropriate behavior towards a woman earlier this year, in the wake of the #MeToo situation...

Velv got some marginal fame with a quirky gimmick, it went to his head, he tried to force women in bed, and now as a result he's probably gonna be in the NWA, the Non-existent Wrestling Academy ran by Smashy McPumpkinface.

I'm not surprised that Drake Wuertz and Velveteen Dream were fired. With what we know about both of them, I will say this. No work environment should have to deal with the kind of toxicity that they bring.
Drake's a fucking asshole and Dream's a fucking creep. It's for the best to fire them.

Interesting week if you're an Ultimate Warrior fan... the A&E Biography on him was aired yesterday (Sunday), and this week's Vice's Dark Side of the Ring features him on Thursday...

Hmmm, I could have swore that this thread wanted to segway from entertainment wrestling or am I imagining that??? Go with the flow i say.
Anyway if this is out of place feel free to move it. I was lucky enough to meet a ton of wrestlers in the last 4 or 5 years through my guy who has since passed, coincidently near the time that Jim "the anvil" Neidhart passed away in 2018. They were friends and I've since become friend's with Natalie who is Jim's daughter and niece of Brett Hart. Natalya and her tag team partner Tamina just went at it at Smackdown. Nat is married to Tyson Kidd another local boy done good. Both trained in the "Hart Dungeon", and yes they used to have a live bear that they wrestled against for strength training back when Stu was big in the business. I was approached once by an agent and offered a contract in the sport but I politely declined... okay fine i laughed it off (I was far more "reserved" back then). I've actually "wrestled" privately with Trish Stratus, that was my "yes please" moment lol. I suddenly got really horny writing this post lol. I'll be right back. Fyi, here is Natalie with the Hart Mansion in the background in Calgary

I really enjoyed that Warrior bio. For me might be the best one they have done yet. It felt like they achieved a very nicely balanced approach. Everybody thought it'd have 20 minutes or so about the Warrior award but none at all. Dark got a lot to live up to. I feel like it'll be slander DVD part 2. I might even skip it if it takes that approach. I don't need to listen to people slagging off the deceased.

I had such a crush on David Smith and Tom Billington who most know better as Davey Boy Smith and The Dynamite Kid... or better yet as The British Bulldogs. Both got their start through the Hart family and Stampede Wrestling. Their life story reads like a Greek Tragedy... David I never had the pleasure but I met Tom shortly before his death also in 2018, that was a bad year for losses close to me. Smith died of a heart attack in May 2002 at the age of 39. Billington, who had been in a wheelchair since August 1997, died in December 2018 on his 60th birthday. They were cousins and a huge part of Calgary for decades. I've followed suit after my William by updating and correcting certain mistakes on some wrestlers Wikipedia pages... i literally have a room full of archive footage from wrestling starting with Stampede Wrestling to WWF to WWE. All inherited and priceless, not even Vince McMahon could pry it from my cold dead hands lol.

An effect of Smackdown and Dynamite on the same night is it's easier to notice the differences between the WWE and AEW products.
It took 15 minutes for a match to start on Smackdown, including the first commercial; whereas Dynamite started pretty much right away after the Darby intro. WWE generally has less wrestling, but this was a relatively non-wrestling heavy Dynamite with it being the go-home for the PPV. Smackdown also had a DQ finish again to setup a rematch the following week, like Raw also did this week. Something that basically never happens in AEW, the only DQ I can think is the Kenny run-in a couple weeks ago to setup Sunday's 3-way title match, which was supposedly the plan. Otherwise the outside attacks are before/after the bell in AEW. Smackdown had a bunch of recap of what happened just now/last week bits, Dynamite really only does 'earlier this week' stuff that probably wasn't on the Youtube shows either. I think it's like 60/40 but I don't watch Dark/Elevation so I can't be sure. Not sure they got the setup right in terms of sightlines for Dynamite with the new crowd seating. Hopefully it's a different setup on Sunday. Full throated crowd did show who's still over; Darby, Dark Order, Hangman in particular. I think Miro's was more a return pop, possibly a pseudo F Vince pop. |
