I've been using xyplorer for quite some time. There's a bit of a learning curve to it, but it's EXTREMELY powerful and versatile. Wildcards, multiple filenames, multiple directories, multiple drives, duplicates by size or content, view details or thumbnails, search for text within files, different ways to sort, etc, etc.

Reason: Spelling error
Google search for it. It's a paid program now, but the writers were kind enough to leave a link to the old free version (the one I use) on their site. |

^^ Yep. XP was bulletproof. Hated to leave it, had to go to 7. Will never install 10.

Win 10 search is slow AND ineffective.
Seriously, it leaves out so many results... Try comparing it with a search program like Everything and see the difference in the sheer number of results. |

If your searches are slow in Win 10 then you may well have Windows Indexing turned off. Before you do anything else I'd suggest you Google how to enable/disable Windows Indexing and check if it is set up on your system.
If indexing is disabled on your machine be aware that when you enable indexing it will take some time for Windows to index all your files. The time it takes depends on the number of files on your system. It could take a couple of hours or even days if you have a huge amount of data. Also if you have a number of different drives in your machine be aware that indexing may be enabled/disabled seperately on each different drive. My own experience is that with Indexing enabled in Win 10 searches are pretty much instant. Hope that helps. |
