DVD Rip Problem
Installed Handbrake to make backup copies of 6 DVD's in mp4. Tried various quality settings but the results were all very poor. Nothing even mildly acceptable. Can you suggest another freeware program or foolproof settings for Handbrake.
Thank you |

I use VidCoder, which is basically just a GUI which runs Handbrake. I've tweaked the presets over time, but even the presets work well.
As for Handbrake itself, I've not used it. |

DVD Rip Problem
Just an idea I've tried with Handbrake: "2-Pass Encoding Option" It is under the "video" tab. It helps with graininess.

Are you using 480P presets? In any case, adjust the quality setting.

I've used Handbrake quite a lot and have had very good results.
It's hard to comment on your situation without knowing full details of the settings you are using, but I suspect that you are using fairly low quality settings. I'd suggest you take a close look at the settings. In particular make sure that the bitrate setting is set reasonably high. Bitrates of around 4K should produce reasonable results. |

Freemake Video Converter has plenty of conversion options and customisable output settings. Just be sure to run the custom installation just in case they still bundle unwanted adware if you opt for their default install option. Their version history suggests they completely removed these third party ads 3 years ago...

Always do 2 pass encoding.
There should a balance between bit rate and resolution. Many times video encoding at medium bitrate will give better output at 720p than 1080p. |
