Can't help you with your question about the app but I do have an alternative program to download music and files from Youtube. I've been using a program called ClipGrab for quite a while now and it seems to work just fine:

Pretty simple with not a lot of bells and whistles. Just seems to work. I've only used the Linux version but I know there is a Windows version. Give it a try unless you need lots of fancy things.

I used Jdownloader 2 to download from youtube.
It gives me a choice of resolutions and sometimes for music I just download the audio.

Like an update to this. Does the ytd downloader still work now but you need to update it?

Again my main concern is no malware of anytype.

It was something like in.to or in2.to[/youtube addy]?
I can't remember the URL but it was a nice way to get the video streams, sans audio. Then I use my CD WAV files for a perfect "Sights and Sounds" version of the video.

jdownloader is free. there's an official dev site. it just has a banner that advertises premium hosters but there's a link for a no banner option. i think you can manually disable the banner too. there's also a portable version but is a bit trickier kuz you'll need to get the portable java app to run with it. it's also not official so use at your own risk. if you find the portable page the instructions will be there.

been using it for years. never fails with utube
