Windows 11 users Start Menu will soon have ADVERTS

This change comes as part of update KB5036980 which was released for Windows this week.

How to disable adverts in the Windows 11 Start Menu

Windows users who have installed update KB5036980 will start to see 'suggestions for new apps' in the Start Menu.

To turn these off, open Settings from the start menu.

Select the 'Personalisation' section.

Click on 'Start' and you will see a toggle labelled 'Show recommendations for tips, app promotions, and more'.

Toggle this off to permanently remove adverts from the start menu.

Did my update today, but all that shows under "Recommendations" are the last ten or so files/programs/media I've opened. No ads or "suggestions" so far.

I'm starting to debate whether should I upgrade to 11, get Win10 LTSC, dualboot 10 LTSC + 11 or not.
Win10 Pro has become "too bloated", for my tastes. Even after disabling certain things.

I did a fresh install of Win10 Pro, yesterday, after 3 years of work and, after the April 2024 cumulative update, I get constant hangs on my SSD, lags loading apps like Office or Edge and so forth.
What the heck?

I did updated the firmware of my SSD not so long ago, so it's not that.
I suppose the April update has more bloatware in it than any other previous update.

For those who have 11 installed on a old machine, how does it compare to Win10, bloatware-speed-wise?

It's just not worth the hassle upgrading to 11, with the pushed ads and Microsoft moving towards an all AI system or if your system doesn't have certain hardware you won't get this or that , I am tired of jumping through hoops.
NOW with Windows 11 24H2 coming out, Microsoft decides to add yet another new hoop to jump through, your cpu must now support SSE4.2 at the very least , otherwise after you upgrade your pc will not boot.

Microsoft can keep Windows 11 , I am staying on 10, 11 is nothing but eye candy anyway and is going to become a VERY invasive OS and they are making it so you cannot change it too.

Imagine all the E-Waste that needs to be dismantled, once millions of old PCs will need to be replaced because Win10 will no longer be supported.
Talking about pollution........

I installed Win10 Enterprise.
Million times better than "standard" Win10.
Less bloatware and updates can be manually programmed.
For $10 you can get a valid license.
Worth It just for the less bloatware, and be able to disable things you don't want/need.

I want Enterprise! I hate bloated windows. I am staying on Windows 10 until the end; October '25! It is all a complete waste to me.

I read a thread on reddit and an MS tech person there seemed a bit concerned that folks were getting Enterprise that didn't qualify for it; I believe it was that they weren't a business?

Can I buy a laptop with Enterprise already installed?

A better more permanent way is to find out the IP microsoft is sending these ads from and block them in the host file!!

Microsoft is really pissing me off. I wouldn't use their OS if the games I play had other OS support
