David Lander, Squiggy in ‘Laverne & Shirley,’ Dies at 73

Actor David Lander, best known as Squiggy on the ABC sitcom “Laverne & Shirley,” died Friday evening at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, his family confirmed to Variety. He was 73.

Lander died of complications related to multiple sclerosis, which he battled for 37 years. Since he went public with his diagnosis in 1999, Lander has worked closely with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, speaking out about his experience at related conferences.

The actor was best known as Squiggy from “Laverne & Shirley,” which he starred in opposite Michael McKean, who portrayed Lenny. The characters were developed by the longtime friends and collaborators while they were students at Carnegie Mellon University.

I was a kid who was listening to Styx, Nazereth and Led Zeppelin but could still appreciate his voice when my parents played his albums.

I have no other choice than to make this very sad post here since I do not have access to the thread section it was posted in.

With sadness I traveled to New Jersey a few weeks ago to say my goodbyes to one of the greatest human beings I've ever had the pleasure to know and call her a dear friend.

RIP Jenny48549. I am a better person just having known you.

Jenny was one of the kindest souls I've ever met and her charismatic personality was infectious. She leaves behind a wife and daughter and my sincerest condolences go out to them. Jen was still in the honeymoon stage of her marriage and she was totally committed to her family but spent far too much time engrossed in her work and that contributed to her health concerns at her detriment. She will be deeply missed here and on VEF and other sites where she complimented and strengthen them with her presence and impeccable administrative skills.

We phoned or texted daily and now there is a void in my routine that is spent reflecting on our friendship. She saved my ass here more than once and did it with pride quashing injustice. She was a great musician and loved the 80s "hair bands" of which I contributed to their sets arrangement with a few songs from my library. I've set up a music scholarship in her name at a school in her State.

Say hello to my William for me babe.

This deeply saddens me. I was just thinking about Jenny a few days ago, because I hadn't seen her around the forum lately. I had no idea she had been ill. I haven't been a member here very long, but I did have a few friendly interactions with Jenny in my short time here. It really sucks to lose a member of the Planetsuzy family and there will be a huge void here at the forum from now on. R.I.P.

she used to rag on me nonstop over all sort of stupid stuff; i would have to say that we had a horrid relationship. of all the mods here i never understood why she alone treated me like this.

so i am happy to announce that our LAST communication -- mid sept -- was an unexpectedly pleasant one. 180 degrees off the norm.

that was a blessing. so i join the chorus of RIPs.

I'm surprised that there wasn't more mentioned about General Chuck Yeager dying. He was one hell of a pilot. I've know a few pilots in my life who where both military and Civilian and it takes a certain kind of mindset to be a pilot, but to be a test pilot like Chuck Yeager was, that's a whole different kind of person.

I saw a show (Netflix or Prime Video) where pilots were talking about breaking the Sound Barrier, and how difficult it was at the time. Time and again they tried with a propeller plane, but more than a few men died trying until they realized what was happening.

The propellers had to be designed differently because before the aircraft itself reaches the speed of sound, parts of the blades are already at or exceeding that speed, creating pockets of supersonic airflow that generate shock waves so intense that they can destroy the propeller.

But Gen. Chuck Yeager was a bad ass pilot and he will be missed by many.
