Amanda (Olivia Cooke of Ready Player One)) is a social outcast. Lily (Anya Taylor-Joy of Morgan) is an upper class teenager. They are childhood friends who have just been reunited after being some time apart. Together they plan the murder of the Lily's oppressive stepfather.

I've watched many a teenage girls vengeance/black comedies/thrillers in my lifetime.

Some great ones like Heathers, The Craft, Heavenly Creatures, Carrie, Happy Birthday to Me, Jawbreaker and some not so great ones like The Loved Ones, All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, The Crush and All Cheerleaders Die.

This one sort of falls in between the great and the not so great.

There is a long slow set up punctuated by very well written intelligent dialogue between the two very talented young actresses.

But once the act of murder arrives after all the build up and anticipation:

I felt like a diner who has just left a fine dining restaurant after eating a 5 course meal of gourmet soup, appetizer, salad and dessert but the main course was very lacking and disappointing.

To me he will always be old man Randolph Duke in Trading Places.

I don't think I have ever seen him anywhere else beside Trading Places and in Pretty Woman (James Morse).

As Above So Below

So, this movie was on my to watch list for 3+ years. While watching it I tried to not hold it to the expectations of its reputation, which is that it is supposed to be one of the best horror movies in a couple decades. This movie has been in lots of top 10 lists that I have viewed.

The main actress aside the actors sucked beyond belief. I could have gotten better actors from a mental ward. The story, while seeming to be at least something to enjoy, went nowhere at all because of the acting and what else I will name. The location of the catacombs, was indeed a unique setting, but the issue was that besides the entrance, or first 15 minutes of them entering them, you cant really see shit else of them because the dumb ass director over darkened the living hell out of the shitty movie. I get the catacombs are dark, but geez with every single character having a headlamp and the camera itself producing light, let us see the damn ''action''. At least night vision it. The problem to top that off was, instead of just total darkness, they would flash the screen to complete blackness and back to picture to emulate the chaos of the ''action'', but it really sucks to not see a damn thing happen in key scenes.

The movie had so much going for it, maybe somewhere down the road someone will make a better version of it and forget the whole POV filming aspect; and make a decent movie out of it. Despite what others say; I'd avoid this mess and just watch two better done similar movies: The Descent, and Rec. Neither are great, but both so sooooo much better than this in every way.

The movie was entertaining and funny, some laughs hit the mark with the crowd, some did not although I laughed at all of them, many times by myself in a crowded theatre. The movie was very inline with my type of situational and sarcastic humor which was great. The theatre is 100yds from my house so I'm pretty sure I'll see it again.

Urban Legend (1998)

Great horror/mystery movie!
Normally endings are super easy to guess, I didn't come close to this movies great ending. I can't say too much on the story, for spoiler reasons; but basically college students start getting killed, the common link being that the well known false Urban Legends are the way the murders are being committed. Example, a man in your backseat with an axe. Someone hiding under a car ect. There are better urban legends used, but you would rather see them play out in the movie. The acting was pretty good, mainly from the supporting actors more so than our main character. Robert Englund and Tara Reid are the biggest named actors here. A huge bonus is a supporting actor is very hot (better than Tara to me), but unfortunately, she stayed dressed the entire movie.

After so many years, yesterday evening I watched both "Jurassic Park" and "The Lost World" in glorious 4K UHD (bought the US 4K Collection on Amazon for only $56).
What can I say? The movies still hold up to this day very heavenly. And the new and fresh 4K transfers, provided by Universal, are definitely top-notch.
I thought Universal would have, again, screw things up with the transfers (just like they did with The Bourne movies). But here, thankfully, all details are rendered masterfully, and the grain is intact (just like I remembered).
The T-Rexes attacks in both movies, in particular, are definitely demo-worthy material for showing off your 4K set.

I don't have a capable DTS:X or Dolby Atmos A/V receiver (my receiver will only downmix Atmos or DTS:X to 7.1), but I was very satisfied with the sound quality, nonetheless.
All in all, it was very wonderful re-watching one of my favorite childhood movies after so many years of not having watched them, in stunning quality. It was like seeing them for the very first time......just amazing

In the upcoming week, i'm planning to see also the other 2 movies. Just to see how the 4K transfers look like. But, for me, personally, after "Lost World", they should have just stopped and leave the audience's imagination decide how the dinosaurs lived and died, during their stay in the wild.
