I am looking for a recommendation for a file renamer that can rename large number of pics, *erasing the existing names* (which Finder doesn't do) and replacing it with something like "SomeWord_Date_IndexNumber".

I don't mind paying a small $$$ for a good software.

Searching for the word 'rename' yields countless results: can you please be more specific (ie: naming the developer), can you confirm that this is a Mac application, and finally: is this a free app?

On the App Store I could only find Perfect Rename and Rename X.
No other Rename apps that i'm aware of.
However, Rename X is a paid app. Not FREE (but it's only $1.99).

It sounds like you could do it with Automator, which is an application included with OS X.

You could also do it with UNIX commands in Terminal, if one were so inclined.

That's definitely another possibility.....and it's totally FREE.

I am using NameChanger which is free, it is really good and have several various ways to manipulate names, takes a little bit to learn but it is worth it since it is a free program

That should work with the Finder.

This is a Mac application available at the App store. It costs 99 cents.
