Deleting/Erasing Partitions of Mac

I use El Capitan. If I Reformat my main hard drive; which also contains two (2)
partitions (empty hard drives displayed on my main hard drive desktop), will the afore mentioned empty hard drives also be deleted?

For the life of me, I cannot understand why you don't get a David Pogue Missing Manual for the operating system you use. It answers all the questions you ask on this forum. El Capitan Missing Manual $18.59 on Amazon. I've been using Macs since the eighties, but I always have a Pogue book or two on my desk.

That is good advice, soundstick.

But can you take it one step further and and use your manual as a reference so that you may give your fellow member a solution to his problem?

Sure, I'll do that. If you reformat a hard drive all is lost. You must then start over by creating new partitions and copying over the data you had backed up. Tedious, but creates a clean, new copy of everything.
