Password Question
I have been putting some of my files onto a large portable hard drive - 1TB.
My question is this - my standard computer uses Windows 7 Home Premium and I have it set up so that it requires a password to get into the user which contains the significant files. The portable hard drive is not password protected. Using Windows 7 is there an easy way to get the hard drive set up so that the drive, or specfic files in the drive, cannot be accessed without the password? |

This is one of those irritating Windows things. . . they do have a very nice utility called "Windows Bitlocker Drive Encryption" -- but you don't get it with W7 Home Premium
There's a review of Disk Encryption software here Code:

I can recommend TrueCrypt. And the reasons are simple.
1) It works well 2) Professional grade encryption solutions 3) Free The only negatives are: It's not designed for computer noobs. and, you're screwed (in the bad sense) if you can't remember your password. Only the "Government" would even have a one in ten million chance of breaking the encryption. They probably couldn't. Wait, wouldn't it suck if you forgot your password, and the government didn't believe you so they water boarded you until you told them? |

Provided it is sufficiently long enough. Containing random alpha numeric, and special characters. Maybe throw in some Alt key characters for good measure Æ Œ ¥? |

If you know spotmau it has a key stripper that will remove any password, and any encryption, whether it be file level folder level or drive level. |

Think of it like this. You have a pound of colored sand in a bag. Before you put it into the bag. They were all carefully arranged to make a beautiful picture. Now, guess what it was a picture of? Only the person that put the sand into the bag knows what the picture was. And, only a machine could put the sand back exactly as it was, when it was a picture. But, even the machine has to be told how. That is what the encryption key does. Over and out. |

"Windows Password Finder can instantly reset any Windows password or Windows Administrator password. With only 3 steps, you can login computer again." That is entirely different to breaking into an encrypted file. There is no chance at all that it would get you into a file/folder/drive encrypted with TrueCrypt or similar encryption software. The World would be in BIG trouble if it could. |
