![]() Hello
Quite often I download a scene "in high untouched quality" and then it won't play and wants a new codec. This usually applies with all of my players. VLan. Media Classic and Pot Player. Why is this? Are these new codecs genuinely better? or are they a way to get cash or spread a virus or ransomware?

![]() It's quite hard to tell what is happening, based on your description.
Since you said the scene is in "high untouched quality", it could be the video that demands to many resources for playback and your hardware is not capable to play it. Do you know the audio/video codec that the scene was encoded with? Use MediaInfo if you don't.

![]() Have you checked that you're running the latest versions of VLC, MPC and PotPlayer?
However, for playing almost anything correctly, I suggest getting a separate codec pack, like K-Lite or FFDShow, and make sure that both MPC and PotPlayer are setup to use K-Lite or ffdshow, in the video options. Hope that helps

![]() There's one new video codec out there I can think of, AV1.
So which one you're talking about? H.264 is old, H.265 is 'newer' and H.266 is to be expected in 2020 or so. Why a new codec? Better efficiency is one of the reasons. A newer codec is better than the previous one (would be really bad if it wasn't). But this all depends on the people doing the encoding stuff. |

![]() Gotta have a fast beast of a CPU to decode that focker that is H.265, specially when it comes to 4K videos.
I personally never noticed a difference in PQ between a 4K H.264 video and one that's H.265, other than a much smaller size. H.265, in my opinion, should have just been reserved to 4K Blu-Ray, as it does carry metadata for Dolby Vision and HDR. I highly doubt most 4K Porn scenes that get released have either Dolby Vision or HDR.

![]() 4K is mostly a dud used for milking the Blu-ray market. Buy that upgrade of that old film ya like that you've already paid for before suckers. We'll see ya with 8K in a few years.
![]() These new codecs exist to use less bandwidth because we now all live on the internet with our mobiles. ![]() Shit! I've got a bad headache coming... ![]() ![]() |

![]() I've not found a clip that MPC-HC can't play. And if it's with ALL of your players, I suspect you have malware and not an actual video clip.
The only error most media players show is "unsupported" or 'cannot render". If you are getting some sort of popup which states you need a new codec, that's not a player message. |
