I've downloaded a folder caled VIDEO_TS for a movie. I understand that it contains stuff for a DVD, and I've sussed how to convert the .VOB files into MP4s. However, what are .BUP and .IFO files? How do I convert? And I can't find the files that contain the pic sets Please advise. Thanks in advance |

Handbrake can open and convert such folders into numerous types of video files. It will also let you select chapters. Pic sets, if they exist, will be in a separate folder. |

As the other guys already said it is a full DVD rip file structure.
IFO contains infos about how the streams are authored within the vobs. You can think about it as some kind of index file. But don't think about that too much. If you want a lossless remux just open the folder containing the VIDEO_TS folder with MakeMKV, select the streams you wanna keep and hit the run button or Handbrake as already mentioned if you want to reencode to get a smaller filesize. You can also use eac3to or ffmpeg if you are comfortable with the commandline, but most people are not. |

I highly doubt the OP is talking about a DVD-Audio disc with .AOB files in the Audio_TS folder. Pic sets are usually in a folder named DVD-ROM or Extras. At least that's what I've seen with some Adult DVD releases.

You can open .VOB files in MpegStreamclip, and save them to any format (MP4, etc).

The empty AUDIO_TS folder is for compatibility purposes, as there were DVD players that couldn't play discs without it. |

http://veterperementour.ru/showpost.p...9&postcount=15 (If someone wants to experiment, I might provide a link to the ISO file). There's also an utility called DVDAExplorer that allows to extract single LPCM/MLP audio files from the AUDIO_TS folder of these discs. So anyone can play the high resolution audio tracks on their favorite player. But before that, the only way to play the HD-Audio portion of these discs was to either buy a standalone DVD-Audio player hooked via analog to the AV, or buy WinDVD and a Creative Audigy 2 audio card. I know because that one was my very first ever DVD-AUDIO disc I ever bought. And spent almost 3 years or so, waiting for someone to "crack" the draconian CCPM protection from these discs, so that I could played the HD-Audio portion without buying an expensive player. Anywho, if you DO actually try to put some files in that folder, on a standard DVD, the DVD player will spit the disc out as it doesn't know what portion of the disc should read or not. On DVD-AUDIO discs, on the other hand, the AUDIO_TS folder becomes "invisible" to the player, and so it will only play the regular VIDEO_TS folder (as the AUDIO_TS folder does always contain .IFO and .BUP files). A friend of mine once thought that if he putted some MP3 files on that folder he could've played the disc on his DVD player just fine. But instead he ended up with a coaster. I ended up authoring the disc for him, with track selection and a menu. So, yeah. It's just there for compatibility purposes. Or, in the case of DVD-AUDIO, to deliver high-fidelity MLP/LPCM audio up to 192khz/24-bit. You can put other files outside these 2 folders on a DVD, but they have to be with a different name, like Extras or DVD-ROM.
