Tennis is like watching Pong on steroids lol. And people make fun of me loving drag racing in a straight line lol.

I love Eugenie Bouchard from Canada but she was driving her own train when it had a wreck and has since vanished. Stardom ruined her, that's a tougher gig than tennis is.

The former #5 ranked womens player was last seen in Mexico in March but her name is missing for the upcoming French Open. She has since drifted to #117

She is gorgeous and kind hearted but not the "sharpest tool in the shed". Might be peroxide poisoning lol. I know I've used that excuse for my ditziness at times too.

Oh relax, I am well aware of the strength and determination needed for longevity in the sport and I have total respect for those that persevere. I think John McEnroe is at or near the top of my list because he didn't give a fuck what anyone thought of him. Sounds familiar lol.

Tennis is difficult in reality and in video games. Why else are they going oh and ah all the time. The video games are just rigged for the computer to beat your ass. To have any fun with them you got to practice everyday for like a year to begin getting good and I ain't got patience for that.

With the US Open currently underway the top seeds are all fighting it out in the round of 16, then comes along Leylah Fernandez from Canada who's unseeded and takes out the number 16 seed Angelique Kerber paving the way into the quarter-finals. The other Canadian Bianca Andreescu #6 seed plays in an hour.

Not seeing a lot of Americans still playing, Rogers got clobbered today.

I still like Leylah Fernandez, Canada's newest unseeded sweetheart just took out the number 5 seed Elina Svitolina in paving her way to the semi-finals at the US Open. All of this after taking out the defending Champion earlier in the tournament

Canada’s high-performance tennis program is achieving its goal of producing elite players, several of whom have advanced at the U.S. Open.

The Canadian flag is everywhere at the U.S. Open, where Canadian players are winning on courts across the grounds and beyond.

On Saturday, Bianca Andreescu won in Louis Armstrong Stadium while Denis Shapovalov waited to play there in the night session. On Friday, Felix Auger-Aliassime beat Roberto Bautista Agut in Armstrong, Vasek Pospisil won at doubles on Court 10, and three Canadian girls won junior qualifying matches at the Cary Leeds Center in the Bronx.

The biggest win took place in Arthur Ashe Stadium on Friday, when Leylah Fernandez, a French Open junior champion two years ago, beat No. 3 seed Naomi Osaka to muscle her way toward the front of Canada’s booming tennis program, an assembly line of players that includes four men in the top 60 and six girls in the top 100 of the junior rankings.

Not bad for a country with about a tenth of the population of the United States. But Canadian players are pouring over the border and making New York their temporary home.

“I’m just glad that there’s so many Canadians going deep in this tournament,” Fernandez said shortly after she had showed the steely nerve it took to oust the defending champion in the world’s biggest tennis stadium. Fernandez, who turns 19 on Monday, is the latest young Canadian to captivate the tennis world, following in the path of Andreescu, who won the 2019 U.S. Open; Auger-Aliassime; Shapovalov; and, before them, Milos Raonic and Eugenie Bouchard.

A country of about 37 million, Canada has made a concerted effort over the past several years to develop elite players, and it is working. Most of them pass through Tennis Canada’s high-performance development program, and many were either immigrants themselves or the Canadian-born children of immigrants.

Fernandez belongs to that list, too, although her route is unique. Her father and coach, Jorge Fernandez, was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, and moved to Montreal with his family when he was a small boy. Fernandez’s mother, Irene Exevea, is of Filipino descent from Toronto.

Really impressed with how well Emma Raducanu has done at Wimbledon and now the US Open. Seeing a young exciting British tennis player emerge, is certainly a rare thing!

Dare I say that one day, she will hopefully end the 43+ year wait for a British female grand slam winner.

Fantastic tennis from both of them to get to the final, particularly Emma Raducanu, who is the first qualifier to get to a grand slam final. She's only played in two grand slam tournaments and one of those, she has got to the final! She is British, right? Andy Murray aside, we Brits tend to toil when it comes to tennis.

Anyway, hoping for a good contest, whoever wins. No surprise who I'll be rooting for, but even if Emma doesn't win, for such a young female British player to show such potential is exciting and bodes well for the future. I think the same can be said for both players.

This is why I prefer women's tennis to men's; it's unpredictable, and for for me, that makes it interesting

^^^^^ if someone had told me that the number 150 ranked was going to play the number 77 ranked in the US Open Women's final I would have driven them to the psychiatrist myself LOL.

By the way Emma was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada so if you want to get technical this is an all-canadian final.

So far Canadian Leylah Fernandez has taken out the number 2 seed the number 3 seed and the number 5 seed and isn't likely to be stopped by the 150 ranked player. What I do know is that both players will likely be seeded after this event concludes.

But yes I agree with the post above, incredible tennis from both of these young ladies and they both have great careers if they don't let fame get to them like Genie Bouchard did. Best of luck to both of them in the final. Kudos to both countries tennis programs.

This is the shake-up that tennis needed by bringing brilliant young talent in.

Btw, there is also a Canadian in the semi-finals today on the men's side

Transplanted Canadian, Britain's Emma Raducanu became the women's US Open tennis champion this afternoon beating Canadian Leylah Fernandez in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.

Congratulations to Emma and to Leylah as well for their brilliant performances and show of sportsmanship. Two great new ambassadors for the sport of tennis.
