If I am not mistaken, W11 oficial release is expected to be launched by the end of the year, but an ISO image is already filtered, it's just a dev version where you can see many of the changes that will be included in the functional version, as the new UI design, the new folders icons, the new visual design of the config section, etc...

if you are on the insider preview version of windows you can load the initial version of 11 now

You're not mistaken, windows 11 is coming out this year at the holiday season, then it will be mandatory in 2025, its gonna do exactly what windows 7 to 10 did, give 5 years added support untill its required.

I have a preview copy of windows 11 but all of my computers are too old to run it. Not going to buy a new computer just to run windows 11 unless games & software i want start requiring it to run.

Based upon the indifference/dislike I'm feeling here, I'm inclined to think...

Windows 8 > Windows 11

I'm not seeing the hook to want to upgrade.

It will take a lot of time before all softwares will become Windows 11 ONLY.
Just like it happened with Win7>Win10.
So for another 5 years or so softwares will still be made for Win10 as well.

Windows 8 support officially ends in 2023. So Win10 will still have support for 3 more years

It's not like in the Mac world, where every software needs to be rewritten to be fully compatible with every new OS.
So even softwares who are designed for Win11 will still come with Win10 compatibility.

Let's get this right (apparently):

One engineer... ONE... stated that Windows 10 would be the last release of Windows. MS didn't correct that person. Then, as we know, Mainstream Media doing what they do, went with it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but can anyone, anywhere, find an official quote stating otherwise? More than likely, you cannot.

Hyper-V can be your friend. (After creating a Win 10 VM and changing to the insider config) Windows 11 installed with ease and it's actually looking okay. There will be 20,000 people that flame boards due to the task bar's buttons being in the middle, but that's part of the course. Either way, we'll all be running Windows 11 eventually. Even the Intel Mac owners will probably run it.

First conclusion: It's shiny.

I could still accomplish everything that I already do with Windows 10, so there's no workflow issue. As an admin, there's a couple of extra clicks, here and there, to get to x and y. I'll live.

All of our standard software works, other than the 15 year old telephone software. I imagine that someone will eventually get it working. Overall, if a computer can have it, it will be installed. If the future is here, then you might as well jump in. Slowly. Or, at least, register for the free upgrade asap.

P.s. It's also marginally better for touch screen use.
