im not to worried about a virus, my biggest concern was that malware you hear of that can take your pictures files videos etc for 'ransom' that bitcoin hacking thing, the more you watch it, the more it scares you into thinking it can happen but then you need to realize, companys are more prone to that, not home computers, i mean obviously of that ever happened id be beyond f@cked, but still, the chances of that are pretty slim, as you said, dont intentionally open a weird file or a bad website that you know isnt safe, i remember a long time ago, like years ago i used Yahoo messenger and that gave me a virus, so its really common sense.

For me the key abosolute key regardless of what AV you use is having a good backup strategy in place. Can't stress it enough - Backup! Backup! Backup!!!

Backup to some kind of removable drive or media daily, and always disconnect your backup drive/media from your machine as soon as the backup is complete. That way the most you'll ever lose is a day's worth of data.

One other thing - I'd strongly recommend backing up your OS drive with software like Macrium Reflect. If you were unlucky enough to get a virus that screwed up your OS you would be able to format your drive and recover your OS from your backup. Of course it also protects you if your OS gets corrupted from non virus causes. If you keep all data off your C drive you don't need to back it up every day. I only backup my C drive if I make a major change to the system. After that it's a couple of times a year so that my backup is relatively close in terms of system updates.

Malwarebytes hasn't worked since they updated the UI since the updated it's been rubbish..because they want to buy the paid version

oh mine still worked it was just taking longer to scan, ive NEVER paid for it, the free versions actually pretty good, if you do a full custom scan it does scan everything, just set aside a few hours to let it finish, also when i did have it, i never found malware, i did a few times find a PUP) Potentially unwanted program, which slows down your system and clogs it with junk you dont need, but again, its a personal choice to pay for it, im sure alot of people do who simply want more in-depth scanning
