post time glitch? timezone issue

Hi,

I found PS's posting time display is a bit odd.

Here is some example.
When I login, the timezone is set to my local JST(+0900).
Post time of this post is shown as "today 01:37" at the time of this writing.
When logged out, it is "Today, 17:37"
That means, whatever the PS's default timezone is, it is 16 hours ahead of my local timezone.

Okay, now look at another post.
The post time at my local timezone is "18th October 2011, 06:51"
Based on the finding above, the post time at default timezone should be "18th October 2011, 22:51" right? (6 + 16 = 22)
However, it is actually "17th October 2011, 22:51"... that is just one day before that.

I think the post timestamps of the second post are correct.
Those timestamps with "today" or "yesterday" at one's local timezone must be screwed by the system.

Any fix for this problem soon?

I thought I posted this.. and found it.

This is really bagging me.

This post is said to be posted about 11 hours ago today. (Now it is just noon here.)
And I think it is correct.



At the bottom of the page, it says,



and that is also correct. JST (Japan Standard Time) is GMT+9.

Now, when I log out and browse the same post as non registered user, the post is said to be posted yesterday afternoon at 17:00.



This is apparently wrong, because the timezone I am now virtually in is GMT (in summer time, I suppose), that is GMT+1.



JST is 9 hours (or 8 hours in summer time) ahead of GMT, so a post can be posted yesterday at JST and today at GMT, but can never be posted today at JST and yesterday at GMT! And that is what happens.

This is a big problem because I am now rewriting POMO crawler in MS-VS for everyone's use and getting accurate post timestamp is crucial to sorting posts by posting date/time. Any fix for this problem at all?
Given that all displays in numbered date are accurate, simplest fix is to not use "Today" and "Yesterday," and to always use numbered date instead.

Guys in actual GTM+1 area (I think most Europeans are) see post's timestamps without a problem?

This is also correct. May 26, 1:00h JST is May 25, 17:00h at GMT+1. As your timezone changes, so do the meanings of "today" and "yesterday".

That would probably be best. VEF does that (and they use UTC as their default timezone, which also seems to be better), FWIW.

Yes, you are right. On the second thought, it is what it should be.
It is yesterday in London because they are 8 hours behind here.
When it is just across the midnight in London, the post becomes a post made during yesterday, while the post was still made during today in Osaka/Tokyo because it was already today when the post was made.

yeah but came in just now was last on at 11:27am cst which I have my computer set to 24 anyway. to match PS actually. yet I came in at 15:42 and said I had no new threads which is odd. then looked up top for when i was last in. 15:42 o_O so there's some sort of glitch going on. but then again the network/power has been flaky all day. rain rain rain rain and some flooding concerns (power plant is next to a main local river) (cedar river) erp.
