X Files coming back
It's coming back for a mini series so was wondering how people think about it.
I'm a huge fan but think the last film killed the show. It was a series that had a very limited number of bad episodes and the film was the worst 'episode'. It's a short series so I don't expect any classic style paranormal episodes. It should just concentrate on the invasion mythos. They should retire Mulder (maybe Scully too) and pass the torch to another pair. This might lead into a proper series all being well. There's going to be two series of The Walking Dead soon so I don't see why not. Add any opinions.

March 28, 2015 By Matt Donnelly David Duchovny has opened up about the limited series return of Fox’s “The X-Files,” which delighted global sci-fi fans when announced this week and made stars of he and Gillian Anderson in the 1990s. Show creator Chris Carter will bring back FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully for six episodes. Duchovny is making the rounds for his new NBC crime drama “Aquarius,” and naturally got hit with questions about the what’s in store for the paranormal show. “I’m as curious as anybody else,” Duchovny told the New York Times. “I’m amazed that there’s still an appetite for it and I’m touched. I think the frame of the show is so expansive and so unique and so influential, that it should feel present.” In an era when quality television is abundant across platforms, Duchovny was quick to point out that “X-Files” is seen as a cult phenomenon because of its genre, not for lack of mass appeal. “They call it a cult show but it wasn’t really a cult show. It was actually a big hit,” Duchovny said. “People call it a cult show because of the subject matter.” Indeed the series ran for nine years, spawned two films and, as the Times points out, helped writers like Vince Gilligan (“Breaking Bad”) and Howard Gordon (“Homeland”) cut their teeth. In terms of timing, Duchovny said “if we waited too much longer people would eventually lose interest. It’s different from something like ‘Star Trek’ which started out campy and then, especially with the J.J. Abrams stuff, became legit somehow. You might argue with me, but I always felt like we were legit.” The show might be legit, but the “Californication” star isn’t too sure about his own Agent Mulder. “The interesting thing about Mulder is nominally he is law enforcement but he never solved one case in nine years. So he’s the worst F.B.I. agent of all time,” he said. “The X-Files” limited series has not yet announced an air date. |

Personally looking forward to this. Always enjoyed the X-files as a kid and despite the last few seasons and movies being just OK the potential for better stories is still there.
I love Mulder and Scully and they will always hold a place in my heart but as mentioned above I too wouldn't mind seeing the torch being passed on to new characters? or maybe rebooting at some point and recasting the Mulder and Scully roles. |

The X-Files Revival: David Duchovny Reveals Big Casting News to David Letterman
people.com By Lynette Rice 03/31/2015 Mulder has some great news to share! David Duchovny, who played Agent Fox Scully on Fox's long-running drama The X-Files, shared some juicy casting news with David Letterman on Tuesday about Fox's planned revival of the sci-fi franchise. Duchovny, who together with Gillian Anderson, will reprise their cult-favorite characters, told The Late Show host that the Cigarette Smoking Man, a.k.a. Cancer Man, or simply CSM, will stage a comeback in the six-episode event series. Smoking Man, who was played by Canadian actor William B. Davis, was Mulder's arch-nemesis. He earned the unforgettable moniker because he was almost always seen chain-smoking cigarettes – and he has multiple aliases. Duchovny also told Letterman that actor Mitch Pileggi is expected to return to the event series that will begin production this summer. Pileggi played Assistant Director Walter Skinner in the original series that begin in 1993 and ran for nine seasons. Duchovny and Anderson, as agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, played investigators who solve cases involving paranormal. phenomena. |

it was a good show. would be cool if they could get it up and running again and not just for 6 episodes but the actors are older so who knows.

This will ruin the old series. He died. The Lone Gunmen are supposedly coming back from the grave too. Why would they cheapen their deaths? This reminds me of Spikes heroic death in Buffy which was shat upon when he was brought back as a ghost in Angel.

My guess is that it's going to be some kind of alternate timeline.

I signed up just for this thread too tempting. I liked the shows roots. each episode was a case, occasionally a second episode. The only story obligation was Mulders sister. Changing the format hurt my brain. If you lost track of events you could be lost for several episodes.

For me in the last two series, it would've made more sense to me if Mulder suddenly pulled down Krycek's undies and banged him in the arse, and then Scully licked the shitty cock in order to destroy the aliens. Maybe I've been on Planetsuzy too long. |
