Portable File Viewers?
Looking for a portable universal file viewer.
The "Free File Viewers" app from the Microsoft Store is a good start, but isn't portable. Looking for something similar (and hopefully portable) to replace some programs/apps on my IdeaPad, to save space. Should ideally be able to play the following formats, at minimum: mp3, flac, txt, doc, pdf, epub, mobi, avi, mp4, mov, flv, wmv, jpg, jpeg, bmp (Basically, the standard audio, video, text, image, and ebook formats...) Whatcha got? PS - I have Universal Viewer Portable... seems to be a good jumping off point, but looking to see if any of you know of something better... I know you do... Thanks up front for your time and effort... |

Well I don't have one program that does it all. I use three programs to do all what you are asking and each is freeware but not portable.
Apache OpenOffice will handle all of your document needs. Writer a word processor you can use for anything from writing a quick letter to producing an entire book. Calc a powerful spreadsheet with all the tools you need to calculate, analyze, and present your data in numerical reports or sizzling graphics. Impress the fastest, most powerful way to create effective multimedia presentations. Draw lets you produce everything from simple diagrams to dynamic 3D illustrations. Base lets you manipulate databases seamlessly. Create and modify tables, forms, queries, and reports, all from within Apache OpenOffice. Math lets you create mathematical equations with a graphic user interface or by directly typing your formulas into the equation editor. Code:

Other than VLC, I would also add the great PotPlayer.
It gets updated regularly, and has all the built-in FFDShow and LAV Audio/Video filters for almost any type of media file, out there.

All Mac OS devices come with the Quick Look feature inbuilt into the OS: all one needs to do is highlight the file in question (document, image, pdf, video, soundfile, spreadsheet, etc), press down the spacebar on one's keyboard and the file will play/display.
Perhaps there is a similar feature in Windows?

Those are all good, and I'm pretty sure I have all of them on my thumb drive, but I'm looking for a single program that will do it all... so instead of these specialized apps, like VLC, OpenOffice, and the like, I have a single piece of software to take the place of all those kind of apps.
So far, I've found two apps - FreeViewerPortable and Universal Viewer Portable - that (together) will open just about anything, and they're a combined 70mb. My IdeaPad has a 32gb SSHD, only ~27gb which is usable, so space is at a premium. If I can find a single program to do it all (including unzipping compressed files), where I can delete other bloatware or MS Store apps, that would be great. Don't need bells and whistles (editing, for example)... that's what the main laptop is for. Googled it earlier and found the above two are the only free apps to fit my purposes, so there may not be other options out there. Links, if they help describe what I'm talking about: FreeViewerPortable - Code:
