![]() I remember when books to tape were just becoming a thing and had a contract with "an entity" that I won't mention that booked time in my studio and while mixing tracks I would float off into a dream world listening to the angelic voice of the woman converting text to voice.
It is burned into my memories forever and brought me to make audio versions of tranquility tapes complete with crashing thunderstorms, pouring rain hitting the ground and other hypnotizing sounds. I was once almost struck by lightning during a raging late evening summer storm while placing nearly 100 microphones on my deck to capture every possible sound and angle that I later mastered into what helped me fall asleep many a night. That recording is in a couple songs from the 80's that made a dent in the billboard charts back then but I won't bore you with them. This still my all time favorite audio book. ![]() |

![]() One piece of advice with audio books. It takes a few minutes or longer to get accustomed to listening instead of reading so have patience and you will quickly slip into the story and become a part of it in a way. If you are lucky you will go on a journey during a reading.
How quickly and deeply you become engrossed depends on the speaker and the tone. If you aren't into it by chapter 2 you might never be. I added subtle special effects to stories I recorded for others and that was my little signature at the time. |
