Hi Guys
I have ripped and encoded some DVD scenes before.

But I have a couple of non HD DVD's that I want to rip some scenes from and upload to PS.

What are some of the best current practices you use to get the best quality.

To rip and then to create say an mp4 of a full scene ?

Avidemux FTW.

(Drag and Drop .VOB file or select File --> Open). Use the A & B buttons to mark the start and end frame. Once you've finished selecting your video segment, hit the "Save Video" icon (the icon below the Recent menu) to save your video. I generally use "copy" mode in video output and audio output to get a loss-less video file.

If the source is an encypted DVD, then I use SmartRipper to save a decrypted copy on my C:\ drive. Then I grab scenes using avidemux from the decrypted copy.

There is probably an easier way to do this. A free program that can decrypt and read from encrypted DVDs and rip them at the same time would be nice to have.

You could do like suggested above, then use handbrake if you're not confident in encoding - x264 @ 1600 kbps is decent enough

MPEG Stream clip is free, and will do just that.
