This is not directed at alexora, it is just a pet peeve of mine...
The term "energy crises" is absolutely ridiculous. There is energy everywhere. (E = mc2). The energy in a single pea or kernel of corn could take you to the moon (easily). Call it an energy extraction crises, or an energy efficiency crises. I am no conspiracy theorist, but it is difficult for me to believe that big oil does not suppress new energy sources. Sorry about that one... as you were.

Petrol/Gasoline made from air!
That's known a long time ago, 'alexora'. Petrol, oil, alcohol, ect. and at least biomass are nothing else than long hydrocarbon chains, the nature once build up in millions of years - from sun energy. Call it "frozen" sun energy of the past. One can - that's nothing new - synthesize that stuff (Hydrogen + Carbon) into gasoline and other chemical molecule. The reverse process is, when you burn (oxidate) gasoline in your car. And your car (everbodys car) doesn't do it very well - nothing new too. As 'pockets' correct remarked - that's a problem of the efficiency. And I've no doubts we do have in this case too, there is a lot (plenty !! I suppose) more energy needed in this synthesize process, as we will have in the result (= gasoline). By the way, the nature doesn't use the sun energy more efficient. But it had much more time until today (millions of years); and how much time we have left? .

This process is new: it's never been done before, and that is why it has been picked up by news organizations all over the world.
If this company can achieve its ultimate goal: establishing a large scale refinery, powered by sustainable energy, it will pave the way for many others being set up all over the world. I don't think this synthetic petrol/gasoline will spell the end of our reliance on traditional oilfields, but would rather supplement what they produce. Same as is the case with synthetic lubricants for cars not having completely replaced mineral oil: when you go to the garage for an oil change, you can choose synthetic or mineral. As pockets pointed out, the energy is all around us, it's just a question of discovering how to harness and use it. This newly discovered process is doing just that. If oil is indeed the 'black gold', then these guys are alchemists...
