![]() Last month I did a Java update for IE9 and over the next 10 days, I would slowly lose the ability to save images off that browser as a JPG. After 10 days, the option went away completely but I'd be left with only a PNG and BMP option. Any pic file I tried to save would be pre-filled as "untitled".

Reason: Title error
This also happened on an older laptop last year, with the same scenario of losing the ability to save as a JPG about 10 days after a Java update. It's never happened before on this laptop (or my last one, either) and my security sweeps show up clean. By clicking the "Reset" button on the Internet Options tool under the Advanced tab made it all go away. Sure, I had to redo my security, viewing and extension settings, but I have the JPG option back. Question is, why does this happen? Is it just a coincidence with the Java updates? Is this preventable? I've done some searching online but there's no solid answer. Hoping someone here can shed some light on the matter (and I'm sure, I'll get some good natured flack for using IE... ![]() |

![]() Use whatever browser floats your boat; I use FF for anything I don't want the wife to know
![]() From the Microsoft answers site: Method 1: Try to disable saving encrypted pages. a. Open Internet Explorer. b. Click Tools. c. Click Internet Options. d. Click the Advanced tab. e. Under security option, uncheck the option”Do not save encrypted pages to disk.” f. Then click View, and click Refresh. You skipped straight to method two, which was full reset. Whether something in Java causes this; I cannot say. |

![]() The actual problem your hitting is that the file your trying to save as a .jpg is not a .jpg.
Try it on here for an example:- Go up to Gwynd image and right-click and save as. You will get the png and bmp options. The image is a png and internet explorer can only save this as png (portable network graphic) or bmp (basic bitmap). It does not have a codec that will do a conversion on the fly to jpg. Go up to the very top of the page and right-click on the image of "planet suzy forums". Now the jpg option will appear as that is a jpg image. However, it can also be due to damaged files in your temporary internet files, so follow the instructions on this page to fix - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/810978 |

Anyway... PLEASE MAKE sure that you update Java at ALL costs! It's in the top 10 'Don't use if you can help it' along with Acrobat. If you don't update web pages will and can inject blaa blaa straight onto your computer. If you must have it at least try to disable the add-in. Click the Cog, manage add-ons. Currently loaded add-ons and also change that to Run without permission. You might also want to change your pop-up blocker to High instead of medium. The simple matter of the fact is that IE9 can be very, very secure but people would rather listen to people that have no idea what they're talking about and change browers. There are valid reasons to stay or change but base security isn't one of them. you can also add this to your hosts file to protect your computer no matter what browser. http://someonewhocares.org/hosts/ P.s. I use Opera and IE9. I've also had the same issue as you and clearing the cache resolved the problem |
