Missing/dissappearing tasks?
Hey,
I've been having a minor issue with the task tabs going incognito on their own and wish it'd stop. It happens when I'm usually in another window for a while and for it to reappear I have to open up my task manager to click on it. I'm currently using Windows XP, Service Package 2, and work on a dell dimension 3100 (Yeah, I know, archaic..). Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. |

Why not SP3? Sounds like you need some XP updates...lol
What tabs are you talking about? Browser? Which one?

Generally any tab sitting idle for a bit, but yeah, it usually happens to the browser tabs with no prejudice to a specific brand (Chrome, Firefox, etc)
I nixed SP3 because I experienced sound issues and program malfunctions when I installed it, =/ |

I need to go to sleep... Have you tried troubleshooting it already? Get SysInternals Autoruns, disable everything you think isn't fundamental at system startup, restart and then enable them back, one at a time. Also keep a closer look into anything odd running in the Processes.
If the problem persists and you're sure it isn't third party related... things get a little hairy. You could try checking the integrity of some system files with the SFC command or start back stepping any changes in your system... I'm really out of ideas as that really sounds like some quirk problem >_< |

Thanks, although it seems like more trouble than it's worth for the issue I'm having, I guess I'll give it a go.

That's how bigger problems start... you start to let it go and suddenly your system will have saggy tits hanging at the knees and you will not know what to do :P
Also have a look at your Add\Remove programs list to see if anything undesirable is residing there, if you ever installed something just by clicking in "express install" or "typical", maybe some toolbar addons got in without your consent? That could explain the odd behavior in your browsers. Anyway, hope you fix. Now I gotta go, I think I hit my post limit. |

Have you defragged your HD? After installing programs, other programs are overwritten. How do you switch to another window from the "task manager?"

It could be so many things. It sounds like you have some serious issues with that computer. Malware, corruption, or hardware/memory. Hard to say.
