Weird graphics problem - Take a look and help if you can
First, I'll give my comp specs:
Motherboard - ASUS P7P55d-E Pro CPU - Intel i7 280 @ 2.8GHz Memory - 8 GB Graphics Card - nVidia GeForce GTS 450 OS - Windows 7 64bit with SP1 Monitor - H2332H 23inch connected HMDI at 1920 x 1080p I'm not sure why, but I've been having occasional graphics weirdness happening ever since nVidia released the 260 line of drivers (screenshots below will show you what I've been experiencing). It only happens when using Aero settings. If I put it on Basic, I have no problem at all. If anyone has any ideas how to fix this, I'd appreciate it. It's annoying as shit.

Try checking or replacing your connecting cables...something like this happened to me earlier...turned out the wires were worn out & loose
Or, maybe if there is a software problem try upgrading your video drivers.. |

Try switching the HDMI cable on your system with another and see if you get the same problem. If you don't then you have to replace the HDMI cable as it is probably defective. If it does then update your graphics card drivers, if it does that again then the problem may be within your system.

did you upgraded or was a clean install? because that looks more like a software problem.
try a clean install using the latest drivers for your hardware. http://anonym.to/?http://geforce.../Results/41694 |

All of the preceding suggestions are good ones. It's a unique enough problem to where you can't really rule out software or hardware.
One other troubleshooting tip: If you have the necessary cables available, try connecting your monitor using another available port on your card. So if you're using HDMI, switch to the DVI port if there is one, or (even though it's a waste of a GTS 450 <G>) standard VGA if you must. If it goes away, it won't really tell you anything different than what swapping the HDMI cable will (that the problem lies somewhere between the port on the video card and the port on the monitor) but in conjunction with separate testing after a simple HDMI cable swap, it may allow you to narrow it down further. If you're lucky, it really is just the cable (so try that first), but I've seen shoddy ports on monitors as well as video cards recently. They just don't make anything quite like they used to. --JB |

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try them when it acts up again. (My comp has been behaving since I posted this. Isn't that always the way... LOL)

This one looks like: the software is either calling for a function which isn't properly implemented on the graphics hardware and driver, or the graphics hardware run out of memory. If you're eager to troubleshoot, you might try running at different resolutions. If the driver is basically right, but its a memory issue, it should run OK at lower resolutions/bit depths. You're running at very high resolution (1920 x 1080p -- that's a lot of pixels) , and to adequately support that res, you generally need a lot of ram on your video card . . . if I had to bet, I'd say that what you're seeing is being short of VRAM and trying to run at a too high resolution. If that's correct, the problem will fix if you boot at lower resolution. The other possibility is that Aero is calling a function which isn't implemented in the driver or the hardware -- transparency would be the guess. In that case, going to the Aero control panel and turning off the bells and whistles might fix it. |
