Windows 8 Help Section
thought since the Developer Preview is out.. might be useful
My first question and I know or heard it can be dumped is how to revert back to the classic start screen and menu. That start splash screen is so bloated it ruins the software.

To get back the old start menu, open regedit, go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer change value of RPEnabled from "1" to "0" Close regedit, you get your old start menu. The catch is, no more Metro UI because you just disabled it. To get back the Metro UI, change the value back to "1" There are several utilities available that can do this for you, which can be helpful. One might assume that the final version (this is, after all, just a very early developer's preview) will include such a toggle within the OS- at least it ought to, IMHO. |
