What are you using to record TV
My trusty old Pioneer HDD recorder died a few days ago. RIP.
I went into a couple of electronics stores to scope out a replacement. I expected to find the shelves bristeling with a wide range of shiny new HDD recording technology, but was very dissapointed. One offering from LG, and one from Panasonic. So what's the story? Have HDD recorders gone the way of VHS??? and what are you using to record your favorite TV shows??? |

I still use an old mpg capture card in my pc (Hauppauge WinTV PVR-250), but the downside is it can only do standard definition. A good alternative that I know a few friends of mines use is XBMC (can run on an old xbox)

Hauppauge WinTV PVR2 USB. It only supports standard definition and is an analog recorder (you can't even by them anymore) but I can access it with multiple softwares in multiple operating systems. Good enough for what I want to record off of TV. I know this doesn't help but you might want to look into what Hauppauge is offering now in high def.

I hear what you're saying, I like watching my recordings on my TV. I'm kind of old school so I burn my recordings (hand cutting the commercials if I want to keep it) to dvd and watch them on TV. This isn't as difficult as it sounds, there are multiple free softwares out there to do this. I can't say for newer Hauppauge products, I haven't looked into them. This might be easier, if you have a high def TV, chances are it has an HDMI input. If your pc doesn't have an HDMI output you can buy a video card for fairly cheap that will support it. Once you have both, you can hook your pc directly into your TV and away you go.

yeah if I could get the 6 Head Toshiba to work again. the cleaning brush rotted away. crap. was a $200 VCR in 1999. Lasted quite a long time too. have to rely on the Insignia with a dead dvd player next to it. :P mom gave VHS up long ago. I just need to find time to convert. and finding a VHS player with proper tracking is hard... they do make USB VHS players now. ION does for sure. with the USB power turntable too. =D
hogwash. If they still sell VHS movies they still sell the players. albeit about 99 % plastic. online however better selection.. Now Betamax, that ones quite dead. was the better format. Sony kept trying. This time Much to the chagrin of the others in my MCSE clase in 2007, I had the best argument about Blu Ray beating HD DVD. Simply because it's all in a name. HD DVD was simply a DVD. Still had two layers and was very scratchable. Not Blu Ray. Had that one figured right. Everyone else in class had gotten an HD DVD player. oops.
