Fixing user:[email protected] URL problems in IE6 & 7
Microsoft decided it would be a good idea to disable the user:[email protected] format in URLs that we like to use for posting passwords.
if this happens to you, you'll get "Page Not Found" errors instead the browser trying to login - because M$ has directed IE6 & 7 to not process those URLs with credentials in the anymore. to fix this problem, you can make a new txt file with these contents: Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_HTTP_USERNAME_PASSWORD_DISABLE] "iexplore.exe"=dword:00000000 "explorer.exe"=dword:00000000 and name the file "filename.reg" - anything you want, as long as it is *.reg so you can run it. SAve it, close it and double click to run. Answer YES to enter the info into the registry and your IE6 & 7 browsers will once again process the USER:[email protected] URLs correctly. Hope this helps. |
