Sluggish computer, I probably need something fixed
My PC is working really slow, I was thinking about getting some assisatance. I really dont know what I am doing, has anyone here tried geek choice ? A co-worker said they might be good. I also found these guys, but their website doesnt look good to me.
I just need somoene who can solve the problem with my machine. Every time I start my firefox it takes nearly 6 minutes to show up on screen I have also noticed a small clicking sound inside the tower itself. What does that sound mean? |

It sounds like you need someone local and reliable to look at your computer, since you haven't provided enough information . |

Clicking sounds are sometimes associated with failing hard drives. I would strongly suggest that you backup any important info immediately and then get your machine to a repair specialist as quick as you can.

On topic, drive noises are also an indication of.... nothing, and can be perfectly normal. If it's a noise you just noticed recently it may just mean the drive is working overtime. The first thing I would do is dump/delete the browser history, followed by defragmenting your hard drive.
But make sure the hard drive isn't full. If this gives you some improvment, the next step would be to get a program called System Mechanic. It's about 20 bucks and worth every penny. There are other programs you can get, but this one I use, trust and can recommend. From what little you've discribe, it sounds as though you just need a thorough system cleaning, which the above program will do. Make sure you have active anti-virus as stated. I'd rather see anyone spend the twenty bucks, for now, before taking the machine to some idiot who will charge you two-hundred just for turning on and looking at it. I don't like strangers crawling around my rig- but that's just me.

Naw, just opposite. I rather enjoy the little looks from the fuzzy little techs and clerks. That can make the whole trip worth it. It's more what they leave behind.
Case in point: My brother bought an HP laptop 3 weeks ago. Decided to go with a Win7 upgrade, got the install from M$ and had a problem getting it fully installed. Brought it back the store and had them finish the install. Service plan. They had it 2 days. He had it back for three when he went to do system back up, to an external drive and it kepted crapping out- he uses the laptop for his business. So I looked at it, his anti-v showed nothing, but his browsing history from the cashe files, for the two days he didn't have the laptop, made for an interesting read. I loaded my anti-virus and found a key logger. Where upon I closed it up handed the machine back to him and told him to back to Worst Buy and get someone fired. He did, they did, and so I repeat, I don't like strangers in my riggs!! But someone you trust, of course- always good to have!
