Porn myth or not?

The Bella Rose thing made me think of something that is more or less accepted as truth in porn:

That many of its female performers come from unhappy family lives, which contributed to them ending up doing hardcore pornography.

I do think this is true to a certain extent. But how pervasive is it? Do you believe that the majority of porn starlets have such a background? Or is there also a significant portion who come from happy/normal family environments who are just doing porn out of choice (because they are intrigued by it or find the idea interesting/appealing).

I kind of think it's a bit overstated. Especially with the Zoomers, they seem to be intrigued by the industry as a whole (as a generation) so it would make sense that the performers who enter the industry from this age group are more varied in their backgrounds.

Without having any scientific proof, I'd say that the amount of people that fit the description is not significantly higher than in other professions. My reason being that once you have a large enough sample size you can make such assumptions based on statistical effects. There are people with these issues and they make up a certain percentage of the working population, so there are some in porn as there are some in other professions.

I imagine that you need to be very stable to work in porn and also keep working in porn. How this stability is achieved varies from person to person, some have family who is involved, some have family who isn't involved but feel it's better this way, some don't have family because they don't want their own family anyway, and so on.

There are people with depressions and similar issues all over the place and I can't see how this would make them more likely to work in porn. If they do, then it's probably a bad decision, like most decisions made while being in such a mental state. Same thing is true for developing issues after entering porn, it happens elsewhere too.

In my opinion, money could be more likely to make someone try working in porn if they don't have anything else, although that's a stereotype as well. It's like drug abuse that is supposed to be more likely with people from a socially awkward background, but we know it affects people from the other end of the spectrum as well, so...

I think most of the people in porn who are doing this for more than just a brief period of time are happy with it and their lives and such. Some do it for money, but are fine with it, some do it because it's a passion, some do it because they think it's interesting, some do it because they think it's the right thing for them to do and some do it because of a combination of all these, and probably many other, reasons. Like many people in many other jobs do.

I've worked the door at a few strip clubs so have known n had pillow talk with my share of strippers. And knew a few local pornstars. Family/daddy issues are a biggie. But a lot of them just have high sex drives and money is the main driving factor. Make $500 a night stripping, more than that once they get into porn etc. Though i will tell u strippers bust their ass, its a lot of physical work, more so than what they would do serving tables at Chili's for $100 a night in tips (though those girls work pretty hard also.)

Its the same thing now with cams. Hell I have waitress friends that got into cams n OnlyFans when shit was closed down and plan to keep doing it even with stuff back open.

Then of course if they have drug issues then yea, they need quick money

I mean im a dude and i do cams lol, make a modest few extra bucks.

Sex addiction, nymphomania, risk sex behaviour and else are correlated with personality disorders (borderline personality for ex.) and mental trouble (bipolar disorder for ex.) that very often came from dysfunctional families or abuse in the childhood or teenage. But it is just a factor, not an explanation.
Excess of plastic surgery can also come from self-image trouble and dysmorphophobia that can be caused by abuse and bullying.

Gabbie Carter came from wealthy family as well.
I believe more than 90% of all western porn actresses have some family/mental issues.

I suspect that the percentage of women in porn who come from unhappy family backgrounds or who are fighting mental illness isn't that much higher than the general population. There are a couple of reasons I think the perception that they do exists:

1. I think the number of people in the general populace who deal with those issues is significantly higher than most people believe.

2. Interviews w/ porn stars tend to ask some more intimate questions than what you hear from other "normal" people. You aren't going to hear coworkers or casual acquaintances answering questions about when they became sexually active or how much they slept around in high school. You do see that in porn star interviews, and those kinds of questions can draw out answers that connect with family background and mental health.

I tend to agree. I've always felt its more hypersexuality. Like when ppl say most male pornstars are bi, or gay for pay, I think its hypersexuality,

but at the end of the day if these chicks werent doing porn they'd most likely be sleeping around in their hometowns anyways, partying etc and hoping to land a BF with money $$. always boggles my mind when I see hotties on FB stories or IG posting booty shots or cleavage etc and not getting paid... I mean yeah I know theyre doing it for attention and to try to land a money guy but still, fuck. at least get paid in the process.

When i do cams I've seen 18 yr old chicks with 500k followers make $1-2k a night while their parents are sleeping. And they're barely doing anything. lol. so its money driven most of the time, i mean compare that to working at Mc'Ds at 18 to buy gas money

Its fairly simple, and Playboy touched on this years ago. The reason the US became the porn capital is The Bible Belt, it's that simple. Now not every girl comes from that area but many have and continue to come from area's of the US where their family life might be ok and non abusive but they are held back on many life choices other countries take for granted, due to the strict religious nature of those area's. Quite a few fairly well known girls also come from Mormon backgrounds.

Broken homes, poor families, abuse is another major porn bread and butter. You only have to surf places like Twitter to see a huge amount of the girls, are not well educated, runaways, bad families etc. Porn has always attracted outcasts that for whatever reason gives them a community they feel they fit in with. Some last years, others grow up and quickly vanish back to their families. The amount of new faces over the last decade has been huge, a few sets, a few scenes, then gone.

There are of course those few who just love sex, but even then their backgrounds often overshadow that reason.

I've yet to see a porn girl, who has accepting middle class loving parents who let her grown up and have boyfriends the way we do "mostly" in Europe, who think porn is a good career, that really is a myth
