Firefox problem
I'm having constant problems viewing YouTube videos. When I open a new YouTube vid Firefox becomes unresponsive. After 30 or 40 seconds I get the following error message:
If I click "Stop script" Firefox starts working again. Not a huge problem but it's getting annoying as I watch a lot of YouTube content. Any ideas as to why this is happening and what I might do to fix it? TIA |

It may be due to their stats counters, or something like google analytics.
Try visiting youtube in a private window and see if that helps.

I can work with that for the moment - but if anyone else has suggestions I would be very interested. By the way I've tried disabling scripts on YouTube with the YesScript addon - but YouTube no longer works. I've also tried playing around with the Firefox dom.max_script_run_time values as suggested by Firefox help, but that didn't work either. |

YT staff got bored playing office golf so they decided to upgrade. Problem is it causes many problems for folks who customise YT with extensions or userscripts.
A userscript is being problematic for me but not really sure about your error message sorry. |

Have you actually tried hitting the button that says "debug script" to see if that throws any clues?
One common cause is a corrupt or out-of-date flash plugin. Try updating that.. |

Yes - but I might as well be looking at hieroglyphs. Haven't a clue what it all means.

If the problem only occurs on YT, then I would suspect that they have made changes to their flash encoding that is incompatible with your setup. If it is a problem with other flash-based sites, then the problem could lie within your computer.
My best suggestion would be to go to Adobe.com and download the latest flash plugin for your system. Updating flash in FF is not difficult but if you want detailed "instructions", have a look on the mozillazine forums. Are you using the latest version of Firefox? Not sure what the latest Windoze version is (I'm on Linux) but it is easy to check. One other other thing you may need to look at is to make sure that no other FF addons are interfering with YT access.. |

Given the resource:// and the jetpack mentions in the URL, and the fact that YouTube itself doesn't appear to download any file named yt-content.js (well, according to uBlock Origin's logger at least), I think it's an extension you have installed that's causing you problems (probably because it's not equipped to handle YT's new awful design). If you click Debug script, you might be able to tell which one it is if you then get the full URL from the debugging window / a comment in the script makes it obvious.

Couldn't agree more about that.
No doubt it was made with streamlining for handheld gadgets as the driving factor. The script I was on about updated but it's still broken. I got to wait for a few page hangs and then it works. That is without the script though lol. |
