Ok, I can see that. I only mentioned it because !jonsnow!'s winning sig from last week has been nominated again already, and so has Drowned41's (I voted for both last time). I'm still learning the system, so I have to ask these questions

If you want to be sure about the whole rules, please read the first post in our SOTW thread. Wildwestgirls made a huge post about our rules.

The SOTW, like all things, has growing pains,
especially recently As a result, the Staff Hosts need to take some action to make the SOTW better than ever. The last thing Staff Hosts want to do is to hurt this contest and lose the popularity it has now, so please rest assured. We do wish your input and thoughts on this. Along with some of the problems, here are some of the suggested proposals: 1. Nominations - Problems The number of these, increasing and now at 41 for the last SOTW contest, is very unmanageable and time-consuming for Staff to work with PlanetSuzy Forum Software will not permit more than 25 pictures per post, so this requires Staff to make more than one nominating post Contributing to this problem, Staff last year upped the number of nominations one could make from 5 to 6 as member participation was dropping 2. Voting - Problems Of the 41 Nominated Signatures for the last SOTW contest, over 24 received 3 votes or less Coming up with a correct count for all by Staff is very unmanageable and very time-consuming As to possible suggested solutions: 1. Close the Nominations and Start Voting Early This already is part of the rules on the first page http://veterperementour.ru/showpost.p...69&postcount=1 Quote:
A possible suggestion is 22 Nominations, this to keep the Nominating Post to one post The Voting Period would remain the same. 2. Limit the Nominations to 3 or 4 While we are happy to see such participation levels, we are overwhelmed with Nominations presently So the previous increase from 5 to the current 6 now makes no sense Also, if this happens, no more record of Most Nominations will obviously be made 3. Only allowing New Signatures to be Nominated Maybe just in case when there are so many nominations 4. Only post the vote count for the first 4 signatures While we wish we could still continue to do this, posting all of the members who received votes is very unmanageable and time-consuming, and errors are easily made Originally only the first 3 were posted, and it is almost certain that we will return to this way of doing it SOTW - 12th January 2012, 08:10 http://veterperementour.ru/showpost.p...9&postcount=30 5. A limit on the number of First Place Wins This is a hard one, we're not sure about this one. The hope is that perhaps limiting a Member who repeats a win would make it more open to other members to First Place Perhaps no longer allow 2 First Place Wins in a row, one after the other and then they would either be given 2nd Place, or another title/reward, perhaps Hall of Fame, or something similar? Please, this isn't meant to punish anyone here And again, very unsure about this one 6. Have Two Contests described as follows: SOTW with only new ones and the TSC for the others (theme signatures, etc.) It is hoped that some if not all of these possible suggestions will not only increase SOTW by streamlining the entire process, BUT also make it more equitable to everyone overall. Again, We do wish your input and thoughts on this. Thanks for understanding We look forward to hearing from you. .

This.
The past 2 SOTW votings I've done required 2 tabs to see which I liked the best. Not that it's a big deal but I'm sure it's a pain in the ass for the mods. Also you should ineligible to be nominated if you've won or were in the top 3 the previous week and still have the same signature

I'm new to the SOTW contest so I don't think it would be right to start putting any suggestions forward but the suggestions septimiu29 has quoted from wildwest08 above look good apart from having two contests. That just sounds like more work for the contest hosts (my assumption being that the hosts that manage the current SOTW contest would also manage the 2nd one) and besides the rest of the suggestions should make the current SOTW contest more manageable.

why nominate?
post a theme, artists submit their work, post a poll with the submitted worx, allow voting for a few days, post winners (top 3?) winner chooses theme. All submissions must be new worx made after the theme is posted. bam. done.

3. Only allowing New Signatures to be Nominated.
New that week or new to that poster ? Either way, makes tracking it difficult. I agree with this one, though I would change this to a signature can only ever be nominated once. This would allow us to nominate long time signatures (still only the one time) and if your signature isn't nominated one week, it still has a chance next week without having to change it. |

Thank you all very much for your thoughts and feedback, they are very very helpful
Yes, some of the proposed changes are also more time-consuming than any help they might offer here Staff has always meant to take a minimal approach here, no drastic changes unless warranted, see how one or two small changes work, evaluate if they make a difference, etc. Right now, all the SOTW Rules have not been changed, at least for this current contest as already stated For the following SOTW Contest, two rule changes are the ones most likely to be instituted: 1. Only 3 Nominations will be permitted. 2. Only the First Three Winners will be posted (however, the total count for each member will still be done, that being necessary to properly make any decision, etc.) As always, your thoughts and input greatly appreciated Thank you always for participating .
