turns out most SNL clips have INTERNAL subtitles these days! turning those on, i can confirm that "DMed that fact" is indeed correct.

and the pirro clip is "mama is a lizard!" that's actually what i HEARD, but it made no more sense to me than the "passive peter" one, so i asked about it. are lizards heavy drinkers? never heard that before!

the beej one does NOT have subs, afaict. nor do some clips where it's a throwaway line, or something mumbled, or something otherwise minor -- to wit, her last line HERE:

i'm gonna go along with your conclusion and agree that summer's version is indeed aimed at that bf, and that RV's writers must have latched onto said version. not sure WHY; manilow is like a GOD in the philippines while donna summer is...um...well, i shall have to ask a friend. not sure people would even KNOW her.

but i guess those involved decided DS's was the "female" version of the song; i can understand RV not really wanting to sing to "melissa".

(whether manilow would want to is another story...)

that said, i STILL can't get "my sweet peter" out of RV's version! i think someone on her end GOOFED in transcribing it, and she is, indeed, singing "passive peter". i do see how DS's version could be heard that way. (just not RV's version heard the other way)

DS's version also helps to explain why RV sticks an -s on "spirit" (very first word). minor thing, but i'd trust DS's people to be doing these things intentionally; with RV, u always have to wonder about someone somewhere in the pipeline with broken or otherwise quirky english being the cause.

i'm guessing u tweaked a few things (turned "embed" on, i see) and reposted it from scratch...somehow REMOVING the first version as well?

i highly DISCOURAGE u from doing this!! it's confusing as hell. now everyone reading MY post are gonna wonder what the heck i'm replying to (point by point, no less), and people reading YOUR post are gonna wonder why u were summarily ignored after posting it!

it is a waste of screen space to quote the immediately prior post.

do people in the realworld routinely repeat questions before answering them? ud lose a lot of friends if u did that.

the post wasn't moved pelham, it was fully deleted, removed (by a mod not me). the new post - which i posted today and therefore appears after your post in the timeline - is different from the original post which was removed. the youtube links now show as actual streaming videos in the post - the previous ones linked directly to a specific time in the videos. also, i put website links in [code] tags so they don't hotlink. content-wise, i also removed a part about manilow and melissa since i noticed you already knew the original song spoke of a "melissa". lastly, i did quote your whole post, both times... i hope that clears it up man!

funny thing u probly arent even aware of pelham - months ago i responded to your question about a line in the show blackish, but in that particular response i had posted a download link to a german language version of the episode in question (a big no no). that post was removed/deleted but without any notification to me - and understandably so, i dont have any beef with it. but i did not notice my post had been deleted for like a week, i had been stuck wondering why you never responded. partly it was on me for not realizing the post was gone when i checked on the thread... anyway, that time - not having saved the post - i gave up on the whole thing and didnt bring it up again cuz the thread had moved on. but after all the misunderstanding here in this thread, im wondering - should i have done the same this time and not reposted? i didnt mean to cause such a ruckus! lol, j/k... but there is no conspiracy man, i d0nt haz n e hakr sk!llz.. a moderator removed the post, i fixed it. then reposted.

(ps - a big thanx to the mod who very kindly gave me a heads up and was considerate enough to quote my original post in a msg to me in case i hadn't saved it)

and yeah, i did spend a little time on the answer, cuz i was fascinated by the line "passive peter". i was like wtf does that even mean? the way regina sang it (twice!) i thought maybe it was a spiritual or a hymn, so maybe passive peter was a saint? or an apostle or something? i felt compelled to find out. i learned multiple new things along the way, like i never even heard of regina whats her name and of her fame/popularity. i spent like 15 minutes reading comments in her vids.. and so it goes in the time of covid - keep the mind busy with fun useless facts (useless unless i can get on jeopardy someday).



btw - when i quoted your original post, in my post that quoted your's, the regina video shows as a youtube link and not as a watchable streaming video. otherwise i quoted your original post fully, as it was posted by you. maybe that is causing some of the confusion?
