browser comparison

any strong opinions on these lately?

i use FF 99% of the time. i have *one* page which it can't handle, so i open that with IE. other than that IE so many problems i avoid like the plague.

but lately even FF lotta issues. in particular, endless HANGS. well, this is something i have all over my PC, but i seem to notice it the worst in FF. (maybe just b/c i'm in FF more than anything else tho?)

a FEW times that's driven me back to IE, but i've always regretted it. w/e probs FF might have, IE is that much worse.

today i'm trying chrome. pretty much same layout etc as FF, first impression, but w/o hangs or other probs. so far so good.

had opera and safari in past but ended up uninstalling. forget why, but seem to recall being frustrated over something or other.

time to give another shot?

It is always best to have more than one web browser as it gives you an option to use another in case your favorite one failed you. With me, I have the following installed on my computer:

• Opera
• Google Chrome
• Firefox
• SeaMonkey

SeaMonkey is built in the foundation of Firefox so basically, they are the same with the exception of compatibility. The latest Firefox supports Windows 7 and up while dropping support for Windows XP and Windows Vista. SeaMonkey supports Windows XP and higher. Opera and Google Chrome are both Chromium-based.

I don't use IE because of all the script-related issues it triggers every time you open a website. And when I need to take a screenshot of a website's entire page without cut, I use Maxthon. It is capable of taking a screenshot of an entire page no matter how long it is.

No one should be using Internet Explorer anymore. Even Microsoft doesn't use it.

I used Firefox for years right up until their engine change which made them more like Google which disallowed a bunch of the old add-ons that made Firefox worthwhile to begin with.

for a long time after that I used a custom fork of Firefox called Pale Moon. I still use Pale Moon and all of the old time add-ons when I want to go looking for strange software or torrents. I use virtual machines with Windows 7 images with pale moon and about 60 security add-ons blockers no scripts etc. The problem with film and is it doesn't meet all of today's HTML standards like you get garbled sound in HTML5 video.

today for everyday use I use Vivaldi. It is what is left of opera. I like it very much. The only problems I don't like is that it is built on chromium. Chromium parentheses which you can use by the way is the open source version of Chrome by Scroogle.

These days by far, the most widely used browser is Chrome. It is spyware malware big brother crap that you install yourself so that someone else can control you. Unfortunately for world plus dog it is the basis that the entire internet is basically built on now. It sucks it's wrong it's bullshit it's life.

Vivaldi has quite a few add-ons available and has a decent phone version.

You're probably going to have to experiment, as we all have our own favorites... besides, whose choir are we preaching to?

I can only speak from experience, and won't necessarily recommend one over another, but I was a long time FF user until an update several months ago bricked it. So I've been using Chrome ever since, with no real complaints.

I highly recommend ''Brave Browser'' for computers and phone.

Its the most secure browser I have seen (it doesnt allowing any tracking on you at all), and it lacks absolutely nothing in terms of functioning. There are two pretty decent bonuses to it besides the security, one being that it incorporates chrome extensions, and you can even make money using the browser if you opt in there brave rewards program.

I used Brave extensively, until they switched from muon to chromium, then i didnt see the point since the scroogle controls chromium, even if chromium is "open source".

chromium (new Brave) is using google tools and apis, so...

A suggestion, you want to compare various browsers... try portable versions first. That way, you can road test them without going through the installation process. You can find several portable browsers here:

the honeymoon is over. chrome now exhibiting the same hangs as FF and everything else. had a good run! (1 day)

btw, the downloads screen has a line up top "your browser is managed by your organization". what the heck does THAT mean?!

it links to a help entry which basically restates it ("Your administrator can change your browser setup remotely. Activity on this device may also be managed outside of Chrome") but why is either line even THERE?! to warn me that my boss can keystroke-monitor me?

the 2 things which FF and chrome fail on:

1) cannot save webpages in a SINGLE file (mhtml in IE)
2) cannot view THIS page:

those are the only 2 reasons i cling to IE.

otoh, i find "save image as..." avail in FF in several cases where IE does not offer it. rly rly annoying!

so far no verdict on chrome in this regard.

Your issues are very likely not even browser related.

As noted above, IE is no longer updated and is outdated. It was replaced with Edge.

And based on your previous topics, your entire computer is an outdated security risk, so it's likely not a concern for you.
