I keep trying alternates but always end up back with Firefox.

Chrome is spyware and that is why it is so slow.
IE - Even Microsoft tells you not to use it anymore.
Edge - Don't install it. You can never get rid of it.

yandex (Russian I think) their search engine also has a browser which looks like it's based on Maxthon which I've used now and then with their LIVE background ... So only Maxthon has one right out the gate so I'd assume Yandex which also has a live background is based on it. That's the only serious browser I've looked at outside of Opera or Chrome..

This is what I think about actually browsers...

- Microsoft Edge: Totally Spyware (like w10) that records everything you do, including visited pages, browser history, browser extensions... (and why so much insistence and force by Microsoft for you to install it on your OS even if you don't use it?).

- Google Chrome: idem to Edge (because it belongs to Google and record all you do with their browser)

- Mozilla Firefox: High Telemetry by default that includes a sheduled task on windows to send data user, once per day to their servers. Is it true that user can disable a lot of the telemetry data on the advanced config in browser, but Mozilla continues collecting your data, even you disabled Telemetry!

- Vivaldi Browser: Includes Telemetry in each browser installation and not can be deactivated. The data it collects (as far as we know, because vivaldi is not open source), are these...

- Opera Browser: Opera was purchased by a Chinese company that has become infamous for privacy violations. What is more troubling is that Opera purchased a VPN in 2016 that has been shown to track bandwidth and log usage.

- Safari Browser: This company has ben caught “hoarding” Safari browsing history even after it was deleted and was found to be collecting Safari history even when used in private mode.

- Yandex Browser: Yandex use hardware identifiers and also transmitted the URLs to its own servers before navigation. Like Chrome and Edge, Yandex seems to lead the field in terms of calling home with a user's browsing data.










This is my browsers recommendation for users looking to maintain their privacy while surfing the Internet.



1º Tor Browser (for Fully Anonymity)

2º Brave Browser (for Daily Use)

3º Epic Browser (for Specific Things)

excellent overview, altho "privacy" is low on my list these days. if a browser would actually BOOT and VIEW PAGES more than 2-3/hr, then i'd start worrying about that.

on the recommended list, however, doesn't TOR flag u as a pedo?

w/e the attraction of the dark web may be to some people, for the average joe like me, using the "dark web browser" here on the normal web seems like asking for trouble.

dunno about the other 2. do they have more wholesome reputations?

meh the is of little interest to me .... My tablet and Phone are from ZTE.. so if they wanna get off on my porn collection by all means but just about every hosting site out here on PS has privacy issues. I've been hacked because of them more often than anyone owning whatever. China owns just about anything hardware. Even if it's Vietnam oh yeah that's very trustworthy (it's worse) as for Opera... they have laws still , even in 2016 it was a major problem when it was bought so that was one of the deals. If whoever it is that owns it now (there's even debate on the name as Opera is still in Norway but the Chinese bit is not called Opera.. the browser is owned by China but still a Norway group,.

Opera Software is still in Norway and has to obey all applicable Norwegian privacy laws, which are quite strict. Regardless of who gets the profits from it. If that is what you're concerned about (privacy), it should be safe.----


So I'd still trust them over anyone else.. probably if I did yes the only one .. Tor , too many problems with that. that's only if I was purely paranoid. As it is yes Opera can get hacked like anyone else. Which ended up happening cause searching covid stuff doesn't like me having my adware blocker on so I had it off one day and got nailed for it. Ransom Ware idiot threatened to send all my contacts the adult sites I go 2. 1 that went right to my spam folder 2. that's really not gonna do much if they already know about it :P the only thing I have is the stupid blob: popup that is attached to certain sites. But learned my lesson,. Have adware blocker on cause thats where the hacks come from now. Ads.


PS: I don't trust Brave I have it but it's just too much like Firefox and buggy. Not a fan

Tor sounds like a browser the Chinese rogues might use but I'm not that much into doing nefarious things in this country. If I was in another country I might check it out...

I use FireFox almost exclusively as well but between ad blockers, script blockers and site blockers, it leaves the browser pretty useless for webmail or the occasional news site that wants to be invasive and where I had the pay window mask blocked.

I have tried almost everything for a clean second browser and found Vivaldi.
It is only a couple of days but so far so good.

Has anyone had good or bad experiences with Vivaldi?

My first choice is Firefox and occasionally I use Chrome for checking my email

Using Yandex more and more because of Windows removal of flash. Only Yandex so far seems to have it still. Oct 2020 update forcibly removed flash, but one site that still uses it ran fine with it.

It's Been my primary browser for about a year now and I like it. Unfortunately, it has recently dumped its own engine and is now chromium. That means it's just Google like every other thing on Earth today. For downloading and avoidance of chromium I use pale moon which is an ancient fork of Firefox before it turned to utter shit.

On my Android devices it's pure Vivaldi.
