How: Exclamations, Smiley, etc?

I posted a reply in a thread and just noticed there was an exclamation point to my reply on the main Planetsuzy page (before my post). Other posts had smiley faces. How are those assigned/created? Why?

I have noticed this before. Why did the forum do this to my post and other's posts and why does it choose what it chooses? What's it mean?

You can add an icon to appear next to the title of your post that appears in bold above your post. See the thumb above.

If you are creating a thread it will also appear in the forum listing next to your thread.
When you replied to a thread it's the first post's icon that is shown in the list.

But I didn't add the icon. It just appeared.

I just posted an ordinary reply and then noticed on the PS main page there was an exclamation point before the thread title where I posted the post?

Maybe I will go look and see if the first post has an exclamation. So the first post sets the "tone". I will go check that.

The first post determines the icon for the thread.

The default is the "page" icon, such as this thread has.
